Reba Meagher Drops The Ball Again On Dr Reeves: Victims Still Have No Answers

Despite a report released by Health Minister Reba Meagher on Dr Graeme Reeves today, the victims of this affair still don’t have any answers as to who was to blame for hiring an impaired doctor, Shadow Minister for Health Jillian Skinner said today.

“I really feel for the victims: they have no answers as to who employed Dr Reeves at Bega and Pambula hospitals, with Reba Meagher now declaring no one within her Government is to blame,” Mrs Skinner said.

More Needed To Make Sydney Top Financial Centre

The Premier’s claim to establish Sydney as the leading financial services hub in the Asia-Pacific is welcome news, however it is difficult not to see it as just another hollow announcement, Shadow Minister for Finance Mike Baird said today.

“Sydney should regain its place as the top city to do business in the region, however, it has lost ground on other cities and more is needed from the Iemma Government than just a media statement,” Mr Baird said.

Government Must Put An End To 30% Train Fare Hike

Shadow Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian said the Iemma Labor Government should take the opportunity to stop the proposed 30 per cent increase in rail fares at the IPART stakeholder forum being held today.

“The push to increase train fares comes a day after a damming report was leaked advising Morris Iemma and Transport Minister John Watkins not to push ahead with a metro line to the North West,” Ms Berejiklian said.

Urgent Action Needed To Stop Preventable Child Deaths

NSW Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell and Shadow Minister for Youth Affairs Mike Baird today welcomed news child deaths have fallen 38 per cent over ten years, however urgent action is needed to address delays in coronial reports, increasing deaths from meningococcal disease in poorer families and continuing deaths in private swimming pools.

“I urge the Iemma Labor Government act on the Commissioner’s findings,” Mr O’Farrell said.

“The cost shifting by Iemma to NSW Councils, most notably, the cost of the Local Government Elections in September - is going to be the final nail in the coffin for the already financially struggling NSW Councils,” Mr Hartcher.
