Iemma Government Tight Lipped Over Green Paper

The silence from the Iemma Labor Government in response to the Federal Government's green paper on carbon pollution speaks volumes, Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Environment Pru Goward said today.

Ms Goward said the Federal Government's decision to offset the cost of petrol until 2013 has thrown down the gauntlet to the Iemma Labor Government to sort out the transport problems gripping NSW.

Two In Three Police Commands Have Less Police Than Five Years Ago

Two-thirds of Police Commands throughout the State are understaffed compared with five years ago and local communities are suffering, Shadow Minister for Police Mike Gallacher said today.

“An analysis of vacancies across the State over the past five years speaks for itself – with two in three Local Area Commands having less Police today than in 2003,” Mr Gallacher said.

Blue Mountains Birthing Unit To Shut

Shadow Minister for Health Jillian Skinner and former Liberal Candidate for Blue Mountains Michael Paag today slammed Health Minister Reba Meagher for failing to ensure sufficient medical cover, which has led to the shutdown of the Blue Mountains District Anzac Memorial Hospital Birthing Unit.

“Ms Meagher knows it is dangerous to deliver babies without expert doctors being on-call, so she has let down Blue Mountains mothers by not acting sooner to properly staff the new birthing unit,” Mrs Skinner said.

The controversial Beechwood Creditors meetings will be held in Castle Hill today to discuss the Final Report prepared by the Administer Armstrong Wily, Shadow Minister for Fair Trading Catherine Cusack said today.

"Larry King and his related companies, who are claiming up to $25 million from the collapsed company will be represented at the meeting by Mr King’s solicitors after his previous proxy, Tim Gillespie was forced to quit,” Ms Cusack said.

Reports the Iemma Labor Government’s political donations reform cannot be legally implemented highlights its inherent inability to formulate and introduce genuine and workable policy, NSW Deputy Opposition Leader Jillian Skinner said today.

“Morris Iemma will have to make yet another backflip and follow the lead set by NSW Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell on political donation reform,” Mrs Skinner said.

Time For Review Of Circle-Sentencing In Wake Of BOCSAR Evaluation

Shadow Attorney General and Shadow Minister for Justice, Greg Smith SC today said that the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research’s evaluation of circle sentencing showed it was time that the Iemma Government instituted a review of circle sentencing.

“Today’s BOCSAR evaluation of circle sentencing shows that the Iemma Government’s program has failed to reduce the risk of re-offending by indigenous offenders,” Mr Smith said.

The Daily Telegraph today reports it takes up to 20 days for the Health Department to report a gastro outbreak.

Acting NSW Opposition Leader Jillian Skinner today expressed concern at Morris Iemma’s total dependence on Michael Costa, Joe Tripodi, Eddie Obeid and Reba Meagher for the numbers to retain his tenuous grip on the Labor leadership.

“The public would be extremely concerned at Morris Iemma’s total reliance on four discredited Labor MPs, plus a failed former Premier, to prop up his flagging leadership,” Mrs Skinner said.

Green Paper Rewards Iemma Government For Slow Reaction On Energy Efficiency

“It is positive that the green paper incorporates strategies to ease the pressure on families dealing with rising costs in a carbon-constrained economy – we endorse that from beginning to end,” Mr Baird said.
