Leadership Issues

I agree that Howard has the leadership and the running, having earned it through wise choices and excellent leadership. I also agree that the meeting is meaningless in current terms.
However, I believe there is more to this story than 'right', 'deserve' or 'ability.' I suspect that Howard would do better than Costello in the '07 election. I still think that Howard needs to be stood aside for Costello.
There is no function within any modern political party for leadership change. Rolling a good leader like Howard is more difficult than a weak leader like Beazely. Costello has to demonstrate his skill while still being lieutenant to Captain Howard. Costello has done that.
It is undeniable that Howard has benefited from Costello's leadership and support. It is also undeniable that Costello's loyalty has not been merely personal but corporately directed for Liberal Party and Australian welfare.
Neither have lied about the deal. Both can still work together, but only Costello, of the duo, offers a growing, deepening conservative future in a leadership role.
