The ACTU has finally revealed its campaign against the new workplace reforms is more about its ambition to again run the country, rather than genuine concern over the changes.
Revealing the ACTU’s true motives, Secretary Greg Combet, exposed the unions’ complete contempt for Kim Beazley and the people of Australia by declaring, "I recall we used to run the country and it would not be a bad thing if we did again" (The Australian 27/6/06).
The unions have clearly taken Kim Beazley’s AWA cave-in as a green light.
And Greg Combet’s declaration confirms what many Australians suspect – if Kim Beazley is ever elected, the unions will be calling the shots.

Decisions about what happens in workplaces will be made by Greg Combet and the ACTU.
The last time the unions ran the country was under the Hawke Government, union-negotiated Accord.
Under the Accord real wage levels actually fell by 0.9%.
Under the Howard Government real wages have increased by 16.8%.
Yesterday, ACTU President Sharan Burrow admitted the cut to the real wages of Australian workers under the Accord was required to keep unemployment down.
Ms Burrow also claimed the cut to Australian workers’ wages was good for the country.
But the Howard Government has achieved the double - unemployment is at a 30 year low of 4.9% and real wage levels continue to increase.
The greatest threat to Australian workers is the return of radical unionism to our workplaces, because it damages the economy and destroys jobs.
