NSW Liberal Leader Peter Debnam said today Morris Iemma and the Labor Party should pay for the blatantly political advertising running on television, radio and in newspapers.

"Morris Iemma should give the money back," Mr Debnam said.

"The list of political advertisements Morris Iemma is forcing the community to pay for is growing," he said.

"We’ve had GST and water advertisements, infrastructure ads, and now police and rail promotions.

"All are blatantly political in promoting the Iemma Labor Government.

"In the run-up to the election, Morris Iemma is going to spend up to $100 million on government advertising – most of which will be self-serving political propaganda.

"It's an obscene waste of taxpayers' money. If Morris Iemma wants to engage in this sort of advertising, the Labor Party should pay for it.

"There was hardly a cent to promote the legislation making smoke alarms compulsory in homes until I raised the issue, yet there seems to be a never-ending bucket of money going towards trying to convince people what a great job Morris Iemma is doing.

"If Morris Iemma put as much effort into fixing NSW problems as he puts into media advertising and spin, our state would be a powerhouse.

"As it is, we are struggling with zero growth, the highest taxes and worst rail system in the country – with commuters paying higher fares for the privilege – and a hospital system where patients aren't seen on time.

"Morris Iemma is just like his mentor Graham Richardson – he will do and say whatever it takes to get re-elected," Mr Debnam said.
