Mona Lisa, identified?

Mona Lisa, originally uploaded by ddbsweasel.

Researchers believe they may have found out who the painting's subject was. Lisa Gherardini, wife of a Florentine cloth merchant named Francesco del Giocondo.

I have an old picture of Lisa. It looks just like her.

German expert reveals true identity of Mona Lisa
from news.com.au
AFTER centuries of speculation about her true identity, the woman known around the world as Mona Lisa has been identified, according to reports.

The Associated Press reports a German expert beleives the woman in Leonardo da Vinci's most famous portrait is Lisa Gherardini, wife of a Florentine cloth merchant named Francesco del Giocondo.

Viet Probst, director of the Heidelberg University Library, said the university's handwriting expert had discovered a reference to her identity in a document that belonged to the painting's early owner.

The Mona Lisa was painted between 1503 and 1506 and now hangs in the Louvre in Paris.

The painting's alternative title is La Gioconda, further linking it to Francesco del Giocondo and Lisa Gherardini.
