The glaring weaknesses for Gillard and Abbott
by David Penberthy
Imho, Gillards sole weakness is that she is incompetent. She has no policy. She has no record of accomplishments. She is hungry for power, and willing to say anything to achieve it. Mr Abbott has many strengths, but he isn’t perfect. He is just much better than anyone the ALP has in the field. In that sense, Mr Abbott’s greatest weakness is himself .. he is competent, and his opponent is not, and so he might trip over his own competence. - ed.

Lohan stitched up by patriarchal virgin worship
by Sam Cleveland
So long as they were of age, I don’t care who she has sex with. So long as it was legal, I don’t care what she consumes. However, she has broken the law, and that wasn’t because she was having sex, or consuming legal things. I think it appalling that a star might have legal avenues of avoiding the justice system because they are famous. - ed.

Friday Fight Club - join the election debate live tomorrow
by David Penberthy
I enjoy debate. But remember, argument is not just saying “no it isn’t.” - ed
Steve_of_Cornubia says
Yes it is.

Or….... (cue Michael Palin voice)

“Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of any statement the other person makes.”
- No it isn't - ed.

No sustainability without food security
by John Cobb
It doesn’t have to happen tomorrow, but for Australia’s future, something that has to happen is the Bradfield Scheme. Both Liberal and Labor don’t mention and don’t exclude the fact that one day Australia’s population will be 420 million people. When we get to that figure, we will want to have built it, and to have many more dams than we currently do. Otherwise, our future is not sustainable. The Greens have a policy on this issue. They want to eliminate most of the world’s population .. possibly naturally. - ed.

More sizzle than substance in election coverage
by Brett Gale
The election coverage appears to be one eyed in support of the ALP’s fortunes. This makes for boring coverage. So that Gillard does no wrong in not saying what her policy is on any issue, and the conservatives are misconstrued in their presentation of issues. As with ‘07, the continuous lies has an effect on voters, and it makes it appear as if politics is all about the negative. But, in fact, it is about our future. - ed.

Grandstanding Greens aren’t ready for the big league
by Judith Ireland
Unlike the ALP, the Greens clearly stand for something. They hate conservatives and capitalism. They are the party that made their name opposing a dam in Tasmania, and since then no dam has been built in Australia, but many desalination plants have been built. Desalination plants are lousy for the environment, but that doesn’t seem to be what the Greens stand for. Nuclear power stations would be very good for the environment, but the greens oppose them too. The Greens embrace issues that the ALP embrace when it suits them ,and oppose everything that conservatives suggest. Their role in politics is as the ALP’s pet dog. They must be very disappointed that the ALP ditched ETS into an unknown future, or that they lessened the extreme tax on miners to only part of a ridiculous tax. - ed.
