GROCERY SPECIALS HARDER TO FIND

Grocery specials have become harder to find, according to the latest ShopSmart survey conducted by Queensland Senator Sue Boyce.

“Lack of pricing difference between stores, particularly those in the same chain, means specials are harder to find.

“Some of the products we surveyed, such as shampoo and yoghurt, have reached a standard and consistent price across all supermarkets, and have been at that level for many months,” Senator Boyce said.

This month the average price of a basket of items across Queensland stores surveyed was $67.39. The lowest price was at Woodridge Woolworths at $63.02, and the highest was Coles in the Brisbane CBD at $69.90, a gap of $6.88.

The difference between the highest and lowest priced Coles supermarkets was just $1.06, with Woolworths in Cairns recording the second highest basket at $69.89.

ShopSmart compares a standard basket of items across Queensland supermarkets once a month to give Queensland consumers information on price trends.
