McCain publicly concedes defeat
Republican White House hopeful John McCain today conceded defeat to Democrat Barack Obama in the US presidential election, saying he had congratulated his opponent in a phone call. - although it will not be credited that way, John McCain ran a good, professional race and has remained gracious in defeat. His campaign was based around attracting Democrat votes, even at the expense of hardline conservatives. He came close in the popular vote, but was comprehensively defeated in the break down. He failed to nail the Democrats for their responsibility in the economic crisis. He also failed to embrace President Bush's supporters, but then that was a tactic. Democrats will support anyone of the left, no matter how corrupt or inept. Conservatives go for the cult of leader. In looking for another race in four years time, it is worth considering what the current defeat means. Since the Great Depression, every US Democrat President has sent troops to die, usually bombing civilians on the way. All of them have been bad for the economy in terms of jobs, interest rates, inflation and the like. All have claimed to be close to rogue states. For those who will lose big over the next four years, sorry. - ed.
