The Good News Is That Biden Is Screwed, Even if He WinsMy gut says that Donald Trump will snatch victory from the jaws of the pollsters. A great deal hangs on Pennsylvania, where Trump now leads by 600,000 but where 1.7 million mail-in ballots remain to be counted. There’s a 2:1 ratio of registered Democrats to registered Republicans among mail-in voters, and the pundits are saying that this will cancel out Trump’s lead. What they don’t consider is that a lot of registered Democrats in Pennsylvania will vote for Trump. Of course, getting the ballots counted fairly is a non-trivial problem.
Politico.com’s headline this morning reads, “Biden looks screwed even if he wins.” The Republicans kept a Senate majority and reduced the Democratic majority in the House. If Biden squeaks by, he will have no popular mandate, no Senate, and no help from the Supreme Court. He won’t be able to pass tax increases, big changes in health care, or his Green New Deal boondoggles. He will have the same headaches confirming his favorite nominees as Trump did, and worse, as a Republican Senate casts a jaundiced eye at Biden’s supporting cast.
The good news is that the election stymied the Democratic Party’s plan for radical transformation of the United States into an Orwellian state enforcing political correctness, and turning the federal budget into a pinata for Democratic constituencies. That’s the genius of the American political system. To make big changes you need either a big majority or a small majority for a very long time, and the Democrats have neither.
Of course, a Biden administration would have the freedom to undo some of President Trump’s accomplishments in foreign policy, for example, returning to the repugant Obama policy of coddling Iran.
If Trump wins — as I hope and expect — the White House will still have freedom of action in foreign policy, as well as the ability to go after Big Tech. He will also have time to drain the swamp in the Intelligence Community. Trump will not forget that Twitter and Facebook suppressed the New York Post’s revelations about the Hunter Biden emails on the recommendation of a gaggle of retired spooks. (More at site)

The biggest loser of election 2020: Identity politicsElection night is over. President Trump outperformed expectations and poll numbers and may yet win a second term. It is still also possible that former Vice President Joe Biden might win. No one can say for sure.
Still, there was one clear loser in last night’s election: identity politics.
Recall that the summer of 2020 was the summer of wokeness. Everyone was supposedly now consumed with the nation’s systemic racism. Everyone was a rioter. The only cause was anti-colonialism. Nothing else mattered. Right?
Perhaps that is untrue, however. Maybe this was relevant for college professors and liberal media anchors, but most people ignored this narrative about American life.
And, in fact, it turns out that the very voters being targeted most heavily by this scare campaign about pervasive, ubiquitous white supremacism, specifically nonwhite voters, were not persuaded to support Democrats in larger numbers. Instead, those voters increased their support for Trump over 2016 levels. In fact, if he wins, he almost certainly owes his victory to gains among black and Hispanic voters.
According to exit polls, Trump improved his national performance among black voters from 8% of the total to 12%. Among Hispanic voters, he increased his share from 28% to 32%. Among Asian American voters, he increased his share from 27% to 31%.
Overall, on a net basis, the gap between Biden and Trump among nonwhite voters was 7 points narrower than in 2016. (More at link)

Nets Bemoan Trump ‘Disinformation’ ‘Scared’ Florida Latinos by Calling Dems ‘Socialists’In the early hours of Tuesday’s election night specials on the broadcast networks, multiple liberal journalists were beset by the fact that President Trump was doing far better than expected in Florida and South Florida, due in large part of what they called “disinformation” that successfully “scared” Latinos with fears of Democrats implementing “socialism.”
CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell tossed to CBS News contributor and former Univision anchor Maria Elena Salinas as “the voice of Hispanic America,” but based on her hot takes shilling for Biden, she didn’t live up to the moniker.
With some trepidation, Salinas said Trump cleaning up in Florida seemed to have been because his “law and order and anti-socialism messages appear to be resonating with Cuban voters and also from voters from countries like Venezuela, Nicaragua, among others” whereas Puerto Ricans trended toward Biden.
Political correspondent Ed O’Keefe asked Salinas to elaborate:
We heard the president for almost four years talk about how Joe Biden and Democrats would enact socialist policies in this country. To a lot of Americans, that kind of goes over their head, but remind us why that resonates so much in South Florida and why it could be affecting Biden's chances tonight.
Salinas replied that the labels of socialism towards Democrats has always “resonated” with it having come across “much stronger” in 2020.
From there, the mask slipped as Salinas griped that “[t]here was a lot of disinformation in radio stations in Miami and in Spanish-language media there and they really scared people into socialism and especially now Venezuelans.”
“Another reason, besides the anti-socialism message, is — is the violence. A lot of people fear the violence. So law and order is also a huge issue for them,” she added.
Over on ABC, weekend World News Tonight anchor Tom Llamas chalked up Biden’s smaller-than-predicted margin in Miami-Dade County to Republicans having been “successful in trying to tie Democrats and Joe Biden even though he made it very clear publicly he's not a socialist, they were very successful, it appears in maybe possibly doing that.” (more at link)

We’re getting a lot of hot takes on race this election night, such as that Cubans are white supremacists who would sell out every other minority in their pursuit of the path toward whiteness. In other words, Cuban-Americans in Florida voted for President Trump, so they’re not real Latinos.
Atlantic contributing writer Jemele Hill wants the world to know that if Trump wins re-election, it’s on white people. That’s a little different from 2016, when white women were to blame for putting Trump in office. (more at link)

Viewers have questioned why would anyone would watch Aussie coverage of the US election.
“I’ve already made the decision to avoid all Australian live coverage of election night,” one person declared on Twitter.
Later someone announced, “Australian coverage has been absolutely appalling. No actual discussion of the votes, the counties, the swings, the things that actually decide an election. Embarrassing.”
Others have hit out on social media at the ABC for calling results too early today, well ahead of other organisations, as votes get counted for US President Donald Trump and his opponent, Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
