US foreign policy is also sadly lacking. Some years ago, I wrote a blog after Hamas trounced Fatah in an election. I pointed out that the worst event had not happened. Fatah is a terrorist group too. The danger of a Hamas win was that democracy would unravel in the Middle East. The Jordanians calling themselves Palestinians have a substantial amount of aid, a lot of which comes from Israel. Israel is a modern democracy, offering freedom for all of her people. So called Palestine is a terrorist military state offering no basic freedoms for anyone but endless civil war. Naturally the UN wants Palestine and despises Israel.Today, the conservative PM of Israel promised to act before Iran acquired nuclear weapons. That is important for world peace. Meanwhile, Obama has asked for Israel (forced) to release killers into the community. A Middle East Islamic scholar has apparently (linked) proven Obama is Muslim according to Islamic law .. meaning Obama is in fact apostate as he falls asleep in a Christian church. Worth considering when one hears that Kenya was warned by Israel of the specific threat to Westgate last year but was ignored (other targets were highlighted too). The Kenyan blooded Obama has relatives who are on the wrong side of the struggle against terror. Victims at Westgate had their Islam bona fides checked. How would the cross dressing terrorists respond to the apostate President? I couldn't make up this story for fear that the suspension of disbelief would be too difficult. Meanwhile a Jewish boy of mixed blood gives to his community (linked) and a brave Israeli widow keeps her husband's farm running, after he was killed by terrorists (linked yesterday). As I have linked, so called Palestinians are being raised to hate and kill, and that breaks many international laws, but apparently the UN approves.
Mr Abbott is a statesman. He has given appropriate weight to Indonesia, The result is a deal that should close down the murderous people trafficking that ALP initiated in 2008 after taking down the pacific solution. Abbott has been criticised by many for many bad reasons. Shorten Burke and Bowen have complained at the secrecy surrounding military operations and boat people. Of course, they had military secrets too, only, not about soldiers sleeping around.

Labor has attacked the Abbott Government for keeping secret the details of military operations to stop people smugglers:
Labor leadership hopeful Bill Shorten accused the Government of planning to keep secret details of drownings and urged a rethink of the new secretive policy.And:
“I can’t imagine who dreamed that up, not telling anyone about deaths at sea,” he told Channel Ten’s Meet the Press.
Labor’s immigration spokesman Tony Burke has attacked the Federal Government’s changes to announcements about asylum seeker boat arrivals, warning of a “culture of secrecy"…And:
“My concern goes to whether or not they’re wanting to re-create a culture of secrecy.

Acting opposition leader Chris Bowen says the government is keeping information on asylum seeker boat turn-backs from the public because it’s realised how hard such operations will be…But all three of these Labor spokesmen were ministers in a government which kept this military operation secret for months:
“There is absolutely no operational reason for the new minister of immigration not to be up front with the Australian people when a boat arrives and when a turn-back is attempted,” he told reporters in Gosford, NSW, on Tuesday.

There is a similar lack of respect in the way the federal Opposition constantly just uses the female pronoun to refer to the prime minister. Tony Abbott is a serial offender – constantly referring just to “she” or “her” in his press appearances – but he is not the only one.
So watch this edited interview of Anne Summers on ABC to see how many times Summers refers to Gillard as ‘she’.

It’s always someone else’s fault with Labor:
(C)hief Rudd strategist Bruce Hawker will publish his diaries, promising to reveal “what really happened” during the election campaign.(Thanks to reader Peter of Bellevue Hill.)
The Rudd Rebellion will cover Kevin Rudd’s removal in June 2010, his return to the prime ministership three years later and until Labor was voted out of office on September 7.
The book, to be published by Melbourne University Press next month, will be the first major account from the Rudd camp about Labor’s time in power. According to MUP, the book names two scapegoats for Rudd’s failure to win the election: the unpopularity of Julia Gillard and the role of News Corp Australia, publisher of The Australian.
“The diaries reveal the extent of News Limited’s intervention in events to greatly influence an election outcome,” says the publicity material. It is understood Mr Hawker will take particular aim at The Daily Telegraph and The Courier-Mail.

What SBS promises us in return for our taxes:
SBS makes a unique contribution to the development of harmony and understanding in Australia by connecting cultures, subcultures, beliefs, generations, interest groups and language communities.A contribution to harmony?
We already know our Muslim Lebanese community has, on the whole, has had more trouble that most in integrating here. Too many Australians of Muslim Lebanese descent are in Syria fighting for jihadist forces, in jail here for terrorism offences or in mosques listening to hate preachers damning Australia and the wicked West.
So into that volatile relationship blundered SBS this week with an inflammatory report on the boat which flipped just 50m from an Indonesian beach as Australian rescuers tried in vain to find it.
SBS went to the Lebanese village from where the boat people came from and filmed a hate-preaching Sheik accusing the Abbott Government of killing Muslim Lebanese boat people - a baseless and dangerously emotive claim beamed into Muslim homes here without qualification or correction just when passions would be at their most raw:
SHEIK ALI KHODER (Translation): Yes, listen, Australia. The boat sought help and rescue and the coastguard kicked the boat out and told the boat “Go back to where you came from.” Shame on you. Shame on you. Ask for the meaning of these words. Australia, shame on you. Australia, which has been the land of dreams, freedom, humanity and justice for so long. Shame on you, that your new rulers have reached the stage of killing people and making this part of their election campaign. Is there a court of justice to try you, Australia?The report repeatedly pushed the lie that Australia was to blame for the deaths of people trying to smuggle themselves into our country, and drowning just the length of a swimming pool from Indonesia:
Hussein texted many pictures home to his family...Life in Indonesia…The children…This remarkable photo of the boat soon after it left. And the women and children huddled together during the night. The family has a video that shows Hussein after he survived the sinking.Reader CalJ is stunned by the irresponsibility:
MAN: His family, ten persons… He has eight children. Nine children… They all died. Why? Just tell us why they didn’t rescue us.
It certainly didn’t take long before SBS decided to capitalize on the tragic loss of life, just off an Indonesian beach, to emphasize that people in Lebanon held Australia’s new government totally responsible for the deaths. This one-sided story, full of inconsistencies, surely would have been better not screened to the Lebanese community in Australia at such a sensitive time.SBS spreading harmony? This report can spread only hatred in a community with a record of producing young men too full of it already.
We need an explanation, retraction and apology.

Steve McIntyre explains how the IPCC ditched that embarrassing graphic in the final report, replacing it with a misleading one which, to the untrained eye, suggested the models had not been contradicted at all.
So how’d the observations move from outside the envelope to inside the envelope? It will take a little time to reconstruct the movements of the pea… I do not believe that IPCC’s decision to use a more obscure scale was accidental.

In Jakarta, Abbott reached out to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in a personal, deferential and strategic sense.But why do Fairfax correspondents such as Mark Kenny, who have observed Abbott close up for so long, find it so “surprising” that Abbott is the man I’ve long known him to be? Did they fall for their own bull about him?
The upshot is a situation once considered improbable. Abbott’s “make or break” pledge to stop the boats has become, in his words, a joint Australian-Indonesian project despite the different outlooks of the two nations…
Abbott ... said that because of support “over the past 24 hours by every level of the Indonesian government” he felt the boats issue could be solved, a landmark comment. On display in Jakarta is a more subtle and calculating Abbott than many expected. He tells the Australian media there is no change to his policy yet he tells the Indonesians he is prepared to work with them…
Whether boats will ever be turned is a moot point but the only conclusion from Abbott’s remarks is that operational collaboration will govern such activity…
The Abbott style as overseas PM was on display for the first time - firm, humble, constructive. It is an interesting mix. He doesn’t pretend to be an Asia expert or the smartest person in the room or morally superior. He knows what he wants but he is adaptable.
Surprisingly, the newly elected Abbott was not just sure footed, but flexible showing no need for ‘’L-plates’’ on his first outing on the international stage.

Lomborg: warming not a catastrophe but a problem

Professor Bjorn Lomborg, a warmist, says the latest IPCC report actually gives good reasons to stop panicking:
The IPCC clearly tells us ... warming is real but in the next century the likely rise will be from 1C to 3.7C, not the 5C-plus scenario touted by alarmists.
Similarly the IPCC report calls into question the alarmist claim that sea levels will rise 1m to 2m. Its estimates are in the range of 40cm to 63cm by the end of the century.
Moreover, this moderate message is reinforced by the past 15-20 years of little or no temperature rise…
Yet our climate conversation has been dominated by fear and end-of-the-world thinking. Less than a decade ago, Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth portrayed how a sea level rise of 6m would inundate Florida, along with Beijing and Bangladesh....
A sea-level rise of 40cm to 63cm poses a more manageable challenge. For purposes of comparison, sea levels have risen about 30cm in the past 150 years. Even with fewer resources and technologies at their disposal, our forefathers handled this challenge quite deftly…
Yes, global warming is happening… Yet economic models generally find that moderate global warming is a net global benefit… By mid-century, researchers estimate 400,000 more heat deaths but 1.8 million fewer cold deaths.
Likewise, crop production will increase (because CO2 fertilises crops) ...
According to a new study in the forthcoming book A Scorecard from 1900 to 2050, global warming has been an increasing net benefit for humanity since 1900… Only towards the end of the century will global warming turn to a net loss...

Marriage should not be redefined by those who disdain it

Among the concerns I have with gay marriage is this: a belief that some supporters, at least, actually have a contempt for the traditional institution and thus do not care what damage they may do it:
Julia Gillard is, of course, not a public advocate of gay marriage but in Monday revealed she’d shared this same circa-1970s contempt for marriage that makes supporters assume she’s actually a natural ally for their cause:
Andrew Sullivan, the much-admired gay author, Catholic and former editor of the American magazine The New Republic ... argues passionately for gay marriages, saying they would allow gays to “join in” with the rest of us…(Sullivan has since retreated from this argument, perhaps for tactical reasons.)
But even Sullivan concedes this isn’t actually the full story.
As he’s said elsewhere: “Any change in (marriage) opens up a host of questions about what the union of two people means, what it has become, and what it could stand for—for everybody… There is more likely to be greater understanding of the need for extramarital outlets between two men than between a man and a woman; and again, the lack of children gives gay couples greater freedom...”
And he sums up: “Marriage should be made available to everyone, but within this model, there is plenty of scope for cultural difference."…
The equally famous Judith Stacy, professor of sociology at New York University and author of “The Family” is Dead: Long Live Our Families, agrees gay marriage will promote a “pluralist expansion of meaning, practice and politics of family life”.
She dreams: “Perhaps some might dare to question the dyadic limitations of Western marriage and seek some of the benefits of extended family life though small group marriages.”

The Palmer United Party (PUP) has secured a third seat in the Senate after a tight race in Western Australia that has seen Greens Senator Scott Ludlam lose out.
PUP candidate Zhenya Wang and sitting Labor Senator Louise Pratt won the last two West Australian Senate seats, joining the Liberal Party's David Johnston, Michaelia Cash and Linda Reynolds, together with the ALP's Joe Bullock in the Upper House.
Counting for the six seats was completed earlier today and while the results are yet to be formally declared, the count shows Mr Wang has gained a seat for PUP and Senator Pratt will narrowly scrape in.
Mr Wang, who is the managing director of Australasian Resources, said during the election campaign that he planned to abolish the carbon tax and focus on downstream processing of Australian natural resources.
ABC election analyst Antony Green says 14 votes were the difference between the PUP and ALP candidates finishing fifth and sixth over the Greens and the Australian Sports Party.
The Greens are expected to lodge an official request for a recount.
It was predicted early in the counting that the Sports Party's Wayne Dropulich would pick up a seat due to preference deals, but he has missed out.

Feminists have attacked Prime Minister Tony Abbott simply for doing something the women's sector has been requesting for years, according to a leading feminist academic.
Mr Abbott's government came under sustained fire when he announced that the Office for Women would sit in his own department and the Minister Assisting for Women, Michaelia Cash, would be in the outer ministry.
But the Australian National University's Susan Harris Rimmer says the move is a triumph for women and many of the critics have not fully understood the treatment of the office under the previous Labor government.
According to the academic with the ANU's Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy, Mr Abbott has endured a storm of criticism and mockery on social and mainstream media and from prominent feminist campaigners, one of whom started a 10,000-signature petition.

This madness of putting the blame on Zionists — and Israel in general — is a knee-jerk reaction with no basis in logic. The most surprising part is that so many people believe this without question and continue to disseminate such rumors far and wide.
Syria, Egypt, Iran and Lebanon all aggressively hold the “Zionist regime” responsible for their woes. While Bashar Assad accuses Israel of trying to destabilize Syria, the Syrian opposition blames Israel for assisting the Assad regime by giving them diplomatic cover. Both sides see Israel as responsible for all the bloodshed and unrest going on in Syria. Now with the possibility of an international intervention in Syria, Iranian legislators and commanders are issuing blunt warnings, saying any military strike from the United States on Syria would lead to a retaliatory attack on Israel. Israel’s staying out of the equation, it seems, is simply not possible. Even though Israeli politicians refrain from taking sides in the regional conflicts, all sides point toward Israel anyhow.
On the other hand, we have the Egyptian coup d’état, where we see both sides ascribe blame to Israel. Interestingly, the Egyptian grass-roots protest movement Tamarod blames Israel but urges the Egyptian government not to renege on the Camp David accords. If Israel condemns the violence committed against the anti-coup alliance, she is labeled as an enemy of Egypt and accused of collaborating to destroy the Egyptian army. Even the state-allied newspaper al-Ahram claimed that Israel is in an alliance to demolish the Egyptian army and to balkanize the country. Furthermore, in 2010, an Egyptian government official blamed Israel intelligence for a fatal shark attack off Egypt’s shores.
It must sound like a bizarre joke for some, but this tragicomic situation is quite serious for many in the Middle East. We are no longer surprised to hear Israel’s being the scapegoat for every single evil in the world, but Iran’s blaming the Zionist entity for the deadly earthquake in Iran was pushing the limits of credulity. This, despite the fact that Jews are a handful of people, a tiny population when compared to the overall population of the world.

The angry bikers who viciously beat a Manhattan driver in front of his wife and 2-year-old daughter were at first trying to slow the man down so they could get in front of him and take over the West Side Highway, law-enforcement sources told The New York Post.
This comes amid reports a man is now paralysed after he was run over by the motorist who was trying to escape the gang.
The bikers had already blocked off at least some of the highway's entrances to prevent other drivers from getting onto the stretch near West 125th Street, sources said.

One of the largest terrorist groups operating in the Sinai Peninsula has joined Al-Qaeda.
The group, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis (“The Army of Islam in the Beit Al-Makdas Region”), has announced its loyalty to Al-Qaeda, and particularly, to the Al-Qaeda leadership in Iraq.
The group in question has carried out many attackstargeting Egyptian soldiers in Sinai. It has also attempted to attack Israel by infiltrating the border, shooting over the border, and firing rockets on Israeli towns.
If the ties between the Sinai group and Al-Qaeda prove stable, it will indicate the trend of growing Al-Qaeda strength in the states around Israel.
Israel’s defense leaders have previously expressed concern over Al-Qaeda’s strength among Syrian rebel groups, some of which have gained ground next to Israel’s northern border and the Golan.
A second Islamic group fighting the Egyptian army in the Sinai, the Al-Furkan Brigades, is ideologically close to Al-Qaeda, but not officially linked to the global terror network. The Al-Furkan Brigades released a video to YouTube this week with footage of some of its attacks on the Egyptian army, including the killing of a senior Air Force officer.
The video also showed the killing of an Egyptian civilian who was accused of cooperating with the army.

He issued a famous edict in which he proclaimed the right of the Jews to return to the land of Israel and rebuild the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. That’s a Persian decree. And thus began an historic friendship between the Jews and the Persians that lasted until modern times.
But in 1979 a radical regime in Tehran tried to stamp out that friendship. As it was busy crushing the Iranian people’s hope for democracy, it always led wild chants of “death of the Jews.”
Now, since that time, presidents of Iran have come and gone. Some presidents were considered moderates, other hard-liners. But they’ve all served that same unforgiving creed, that same unforgiving regime, that creed that is espoused and enforced by the real power in Iran, the dictator known as the supreme leader, first Ayatollah Khomeini and now Ayatollah Khamenei.

We are told, day after day, that Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is a genuine moderate committed to achieving a peace settlement with Israel. In addition to the international community, even some Israelis – admittedly a dwindling minority – also chant this mantra.
Abbas and his spokesman Saeb Erekat bolster this theme by uttering soothing statements in English, endorsing peace to the gullible international community. Yet they speak with forked tongues because in Arabic to their own people, they deny Israel’s right to exist and promote vicious hatred against Jews.
They also claim to have reneged violence. But the PA never conceded that terrorism was immoral. They simply concluded that having failed to achieve their objectives by violence, their goals could best be promoted by temporarily suspending terrorism in order to gain Western support. Abbas made it clear that he “had the honor of firing the first shot in 1965″ and was only opposed to terrorist attacks “at this time” for tactical reasons and that “in the future things may change.” Yet, even within this framework, Fatah has still succeeded in killing more Israelis than Hamas.
The true objectives of the PA are reflected in the poisonous hatred against Jews and Israel inculcated to their people through the broad range of institutions they control, permeating every level of society– from kindergarten and upwards.

The spouse desires to give to Jesus all that she produces. Our heart has "all manner of pleasant fruits," both "old and new," and they are laid up for our Beloved. At this rich autumnal season of fruit, let us survey our stores. We have new fruits. We desire to feel new life, new joy, new gratitude; we wish to make new resolves and carry them out by new labours; our heart blossoms with new prayers, and our soul is pledging herself to new efforts. But we have some old fruits too. There is our first love: a choice fruit that! and Jesus delights in it. There is our first faith: that simple faith by which, having nothing, we became possessors of all things. There is our joy when first we knew the Lord: let us revive it. We have our old remembrances of the promises. How faithful has God been! In sickness, how softly did he make our bed! In deep waters, how placidly did he buoy us up! In the flaming furnace, how graciously did he deliver us. Old fruits, indeed! We have many of them, for his mercies have been more than the hairs of our head. Old sins we must regret, but then we have had repentances which he has given us, by which we have wept our way to the cross, and learned the merit of his blood. We have fruits, this morning, both new and old; but here is the point--they are all laid up for Jesus. Truly, those are the best and most acceptable services in which Jesus is the solitary aim of the soul, and his glory, without any admixture whatever, the end of all our efforts. Let our many fruits be laid up only for our Beloved; let us display them when he is with us, and not hold them up before the gaze of men. Jesus, we will turn the key in our garden door, and none shall enter to rob thee of one good fruit from the soil which thou hast watered with thy bloody sweat. Bounteous is Jehovah in his nature; to give is his delight. His gifts are beyond measure precious, and are as freely given as the light of the sun. He gives grace to his elect because he wills it, to his redeemed because of his covenant, to the called because of his promise, to believers because they seek it, to sinners because they need it. He gives grace abundantly, seasonably, constantly, readily, sovereignly; doubly enhancing the value of the boon by the manner of its bestowal. Grace in all its forms he freely renders to his people: comforting, preserving, sanctifying, directing, instructing, assisting grace, he generously pours into their souls without ceasing, and he always will do so, whatever may occur. Sickness may befall, but the Lord will give grace; poverty may happen to us, but grace will surely be afforded; death must come but grace will light a candle at the darkest hour. Reader, how blessed it is as years roll round, and the leaves begin again to fall, to enjoy such an unfading promise as this, "The Lord will give grace."
The little conjunction "and" in this verse is a diamond rivet binding the present with the future: grace and glory always go together. God has married them, and none can divorce them. The Lord will never deny a soul glory to whom he has freely given to live upon his grace; indeed, glory is nothing more than grace in its Sabbath dress, grace in full bloom, grace like autumn fruit, mellow and perfected. How soon we may have glory none can tell! It may be before this month of October has run out we shall see the Holy City; but be the interval longer or shorter, we shall be glorified ere long. Glory, the glory of heaven, the glory of eternity, the glory of Jesus, the glory of the Father, the Lord will surely give to his chosen. Oh, rare promise of a faithful God!
