Abbott is a conservative, his approach to the issue of global warming is consistent with that. Even if it were the case the hysterical IPCC prognosis of climate change was true, the best way to address it is to maintain a strong industry for the time that a solution is found. One solution Australia should embrace is nuclear power. However, that is at odds with another scare run by the ALP.
In contrast to Abbott there is Obama. Obama is a liar and failure in policy areas. The US debt under Obama has reached $17 trillion US. When the US debt was $6 trillion US under Bush, Obama had said it was a sign of weak leadership. Mr Bush, please, come back. We need a leader like you for the US.

Those who now call themselves conservative in America are essentially political radicals, who hold dogmatic views about taxation, the size of government, sexual morality and the use of US power, all of which are totally divorced from context and circumstance…
The tradition of thought Abbott draws on for his conservatism could not be more different. Battlelines is peppered with references to Roger Scruton, Michael Oakeshott and Edmund Burke, each of whom in their different ways dedicated their work to resisting the threat posed by extremist ideology of all kinds. One of the defining features of this type of conservatism is that it is anti-ideological. Ideology presupposes that a system of government can be perfected by abstracting it, thus pulling it away from the concrete practices of particular societies. But as Abbott says in Battlelines, ‘Conservatism starts with an appreciation of what is and what has been and tries to discern the good from patterns of conduct.’…
British Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan wrote glowingly in the UK Daily Telegraph recently that Abbott ‘has no time for the notion, favoured by some Melbourne clever dicks, that Australia is an Asian power: his country’s alliances with Britain, the United States and the other Anglophone democracies are central to his worldview.’ Actually ... Abbott [has] said: ‘Decisions which impact on our national interests will be made in Jakarta, in Beijing, in Tokyo, in Seoul, as much as they will be made in Washington.’
Judging by what Abbott has said and written on the topic, the Anglosphere ... does have its place as part of Australia’s relations with the world, particularly in defence and intelligence sharing. But for Abbott, the Anglosphere is a primarily an intellectual construct, a common heritage of civic institutions, art, literature and ideas, not a diplomatic tool. Don’t expect Abbott to turn his back on Asia.

I find it pathetic that a Prime Minister trawls through the sludge of the Internet, taking offence at the abuse:
The “social” media does not define rational Australia, and adults do not let Internet trolls colonise their minds. So it is scary that the abuse of bloggers and tweeters so got to Gillard that it’s turned her into a professional victim, cheered to the echo at the Sydney Opera House last night just for bleeding. For this and similar reasons, last night was a disaster for Gillard. Or, at least, it was the last act of a poorly-scripted tragedy. A melodrama, really, staged for the infantile and the willing wounded.
Imagine: would John Howard ever spend an evening in front of an audience complaining how some people were mean to him? Would Tony Abbott? Did Margaret Thatcher?

Almost 15 hours after the show aired a leadership debate with Bill Shorten and Anthony Albanese, the tweet remained on the ABC’s website today.
The tweeter referred to watching Q&A or performing a sexual act related to Mr Abbott and ended with “Decisions, decisions."…
Publication of the tweet degrading Mr Abbott came after former Prime Minister Julia Gillard revealed her own reaction to sexism directed at her.

We were told - incorrectly - that Tony Abbott had offended the Indonesian government.
We were told - incorrectly - that Indonesia would resist Tony Abbott’s policy to return boat people to Indonesia.
We were told - incorrectly - that Tony Abbott was too clumsy for diplomacy with Indonesia.
And now comes the row-back after a meeting between Abbott and the Indonesian President that was warm as their one last year, from which Abbott took much encouragement.

Abbott did not bite when Natalegawa accidentally - or by foolish design - released notes of his conversation with Foreign Minister Julie Bishop which the media beat up into a smackdown.
Abbott has been silent on a startling development he’s brought in almost immediately - the return of boat people to Indonesia. He has not risked stoking nationalist sentiments in Indonesia that might embarrass the President.
Abbott has had boat people not brought back to an Indonesian port but transferred to Indonesian vessels. Again, this maintains Indonesian dignity and will be almost certainly the model for future cooperation, possibly involving vessels bought by Australia for Indonesia.
Abbott went to Jakarta with Trade and Investment Minister Andrew Robb but not Immigration Minister Scott Morrison to put the boat people issue in the context of much broader mutual interests, including Indonesia’s own. He’s taken the temperature out of the debate.
Abbott has reassured Indonesia - and slid the stiletto into Labor - by reassuring it that never again would Australia unilaterally cut off food supplies, as Labor did by stopping live cattle exports overnight.
Abbott as Opposition Leader also refused, despite much taunting from Labor and many false claims, to betray what President Yudhoyono privately told him last year to give him confidence of Indonesian cooperation. Labor repeatedly claimed he had been too gutless to discuss with Yudhoyono his policy to turn back the boats. Abbott refused to defend himself if it meant offending Yudhoyono.
In short, Abbott has confounded the media stereotype of a bumbler and three-word-slogan man. His boat people policies are far more likely to succeed than fail.
That said, there is one big caveat. This relationship owes much to the authority and the friendship of President Yudhoyono. But Yudhoyono has just a year left to serve. Abbott will be very, very keen to get as much as possible of his boat people arrangements with Indonesia in place before a new president takes over.

The Indonesian President has made a significant concession to Tony Abbott’s demands on asylum seekers in talks in Jakarta, agreeing that Indonesia will need to make direct deals with Australia to solve the people-smuggling problem.Reassured? Or put back in his box?
Until now, Indonesia’s position has been that any potential policies should be dealt with at the multilateral forum, the Bali Process… But after meeting Mr Abbott late on Monday on his first overseas trip as Prime Minister, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono agreed the countries also needed to work one-on-one.
“Indonesia has striven to overcome this issue, but it would be much better if the co-operation was at the bilateral level,” he said…

Were Australian navy and customs vessels simply too overstretched to mount another search and rescue operation? Or is the explanation more sinister?The explanation is actually simple:
There is ample evidence indicating that in 2001, the Liberal-National government of Prime Minister John Howard deliberately did nothing while a refugee vessel known as SIEV X sank, resulting in the drowning of 353 people.
SHALLOW waters and confusion about the location of a stricken asylum boat were among the reasons rescuers were unable to save dozens of asylum-seekers who drowned at sea on Friday…That should be enough to satisfy even a David Marr or the Greens. Shouldn’t it?
Immigration Minister Scott Morrison...described suggestions Australian rescuers were slow to act as “offensive”, saying the first authorities heard of the foundering vessel was when one of its passengers phoned a friend in Melbourne on Friday, just hours before the boat capsized. That friend contacted the Australian Federal Police on Christmas Island at 7.57am. The AFP then called the Rescue Co-ordination Centre.
Indonesia’s search-and-rescue agency Basarnas was contacted but said it was unable to take responsibility for the search, despite the boat’s last reported location being just 15km from the Indonesian shoreline. Within hours Customs planes went to search for the boat, the location of which was relayed to Australian authorities by passengers who used text messages to phone in co-ordinates.
An alert was sent out to merchant vessels in the area but the shallow waters meant responding vessels could not assist.Survivors of the tragedy insist authorities were contacted on Thursday, a day before the boat went down.
Air Marshal Mark Binskin suggested confusion on the boat could explain the discrepancy.
“There was a large level of confusion and disorientation (on the vessel),” he said. “But there is no record of any contact before then.”

No steel roof required: IPCC dials back the fear of extreme weather

Professor Ross Garnaut in 2007, the very peak of global warming hysteria, told his local council he had to build a steel roof on his Melbourne home.
Garnaut, who wrote massive reports on global warming policy for the Rudd Government, argued he needed protection from the extreme weather he was sure we’d get from the change in the climate.
“Severe and more frequent hailstorms will be a feature of this change,” he wrote to the City of Yarra Council, explaining why he had to be excused from the council’s heritage overlay, which required slate roofs.
If I were Garnaut, it would not now read the full report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released yesterday. Reading it would be mortifying. The report is like watching global warming alarmists swallow a chill pill.
It’s important to recall the context for this latest IPCC report - how global warming alarmists have for a decade warned of all kinds of extreme weather events that would smash our cities, kill our citizens and turn farmland into desert. Indeed, the iconic image of global warming was this poster, from Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, exploiting the Hurricane Katrina catastrophe to whip up fear:

Now for the chill pill.
It was embarrassing enough for the IPCC in the summary released last Friday to admit there has been a 15-year pause or dramatic slowdown in global warming, and that its climate models didn’t predict that or the increase in Antarctic sea ice.
But now the IPCC can’t be sure at all we’re suffering from many extreme weather events, either. It even admits its past warnings of more droughts were “overstated”.
On the hail that frightened Garnaut into demanding a steel roof:

In summary, confidence in large scale changes in the intensity of extreme extratropical cyclones since 1900 is low. There is also low confidence for a clear trend in storminess proxies over the last century due to inconsistencies between studies or lack of long-term data in some parts of the world (particularly in the SH). Likewise, confidence in trends in extreme winds is low, due to quality and consistency issues with analysed data…
Over periods of a century or more, evidence suggests slight decreases in the frequency of tropical cyclones making landfall in the North Atlantic and the South Pacific, once uncertainties in observing methods have been considered. Little evidence exists of any longer-term trend in other ocean basins… Several studies suggest an increase in intensity, but data sampling issues hamper these assessments…
Callaghan and Power (2011) find a statistically significant decrease in Eastern Australia land-falling tropical cyclones since the late 19th century although including 2010/2011 season data this trend becomes non-significant (i.e., a trend of zero lies just inside the 90% confidence interval).
On the trouble with detecting trends in extreme weather events:
Changes in extremes for other climate variables are generally less coherent than those observed for temperature, due to data limitations and inconsistencies between studies, regions and/or seasons. However, increases in precipitation extremes, for example, are consistent with a warmer climate. Analyses of land areas with sufficient data indicate increases in the frequency and intensity of extreme precipitation events in recent decades, but results vary strongly between regions and seasons. For instance, evidence is most compelling for increases in heavy precipitation in North America, Central America and Europe, but in some other regions—such as southern Australia and western Asia—there is evidence of decreases. Likewise, drought studies do not agree on the sign of the global trend, with regional inconsistencies in trends also dependent on how droughts are defined. However, indications exist that droughts have increased in some regions (e.g., the Mediterranean) and decreased in othersRemember, all these quotes come not from sceptics but from the IPCC, the United Nations body most responsible for spreading panic about global warming - and the body with a strong vested interest in keeping that panic alive.

This report should have had the words “Sorry we scared you” printed in big letters on the cover. No steel roofs are required, after all. The future is not catastrophic. The fear-mongers must now be held to account.

The full IPCC report also makes much clearer than did the sanitised summary released on Friday that the computer models used to predict our climate are so flawed that they couldn’t even predict the last 15 years of essentially no warming. The IPCC admits they probably exaggerated the effect of man’s emissions on temperatures.
So why on earth should we trust them?

The discrepancy between simulated and observed GMST trends during 1998–2012 could be explained in part by a tendency for some CMIP5 models to simulate stronger warming in response to increases in greenhouse-gas concentration than is consistent with observations… This finding provides evidence that some CMIP5 models show a larger response to greenhouse gases and other anthropogenic factors (dominated by the effects of aerosols) than the real world (medium confidence). As a consequence, it is argued in Chapter 11 that near-term model projections of GMST increase should be scaled down by about 10% (Section 11.3.6.3). This downward scaling is, however, not sufficient to explain the model-mean overestimate of GMST trend over the hiatus period.
Another possible source of model error is the poor representation of water vapour in the upper atmosphere… However, this effect is assessed here to be small, because there was a recovery in stratospheric water vapour after 2005…
In summary, the observed recent warming hiatus, defined as the reduction in GMST trend during 1998–2012 as compared to the trend during 1951–2012, is attributable in roughly equal measure to a cooling contribution from internal variability and a reduced trend in external forcing (expert judgment, medium confidence). The forcing trend reduction is primarily due to a negative forcing trend from both volcanic eruptions and the downward phase of the solar cycle. However, there is low confidence in quantifying the role of forcing trend in causing the hiatus, because of uncertainty in the magnitude of the volcanic forcing trend and low confidence in the aerosol forcing trend.
Almost all CMIP5 historical simulations do not reproduce the observed recent warming hiatus.

The Supreme Court has 'suggested' invalidating a 1950 law that allows the government to seize property in 'east' Jerusalem that has been abandoned by its former owners. The good news is that the court does not want to throw out the thousands of Israeli Jews who live on such properties, finally recognizing the reality that you can't expel people on that kind of scale.
The High Court of Justice issued a recommendation on Tuesday to the state, and to lawyers fighting to undo state confiscations of east Jerusalem land, that the court declare the use of a 1950 law to justify further confiscations unconstitutional.
While some of the petitioners, such as top lawyer Avigdor Feldman, were ready to embrace the recommendation as a long-delayed righting of what they considered decades of injustice, other petitioners, like NGO Adalah’s director Hassan Jabareen and lawyer Souhad Bishara, were dismayed, viewing the suggestion as permanently anchoring in law nearly 50 years of unjust confiscations.

Grunis, asked all of the parties to provide legal opinions on its suggestion to declare the law’s application in east Jerusalem unconstitutional, and to give their own ideas on whether the declaration should take effect only now, or retroactively from a different date.

Washington (CNN) -- The U.S. government shut down at 12:01 a.m. ET Tuesday after lawmakers in the House and the Senate could not agree on a spending bill to fund the government.
The two sides bickered and blamed each other for more than a week over Obamacare, the president's signature health care law. House Republicans insisted the spending bill include anti-Obamacare amendments. Senate Democrats were just as insistent that it didn't.
Federal employees who are considered essential will continue working. But employees deemed non-essential -- close to 800,000 -- will be furloughed.
Most furloughed federal workers are supposed to be out of their offices within four hours of the start of business Tuesday.
President Barack Obama issued a statement early Tuesday to military members and Department of Defense employees about the outcome of the shutdown.
"Those of you in uniform will remain on your normal duty status," the president said. "Congress has passed, and I am signing into law, legislation to make sure you get your paychecks on time. And we'll continue working to address any impact this shutdown has on you and your families."
"To all our DOD civilians—I know the days ahead could mean more uncertainty, including possible furloughs," the president added. "And I know this comes on top of the furloughs that many of you already endured this summer. You and your families deserve better than the dysfunction we're seeing in Congress. ... Dalia Har Sinai is not your typical grandmother. She is the woman behind the operation of the Har Sinai Farm in Susiya, located in the south Hebron hills, where she and her family have resided for the past 30 years. Har Sinai single-handedly manages the flour mill, dairy farm, and the herd of sheep and goats.
Since her husband Yair was killed by Hamas terrorists as he was grazing their flock of sheep 12 years ago, Dalia has had to struggle to keep the farm operational with the assistance of a hired shepherd, her family, and volunteers.
Dalia and her husband Yair, both originally from agricultural communities in the Hefer Valley region, near Netanya, moved to the arid desert region of Susiya with their four children in 1984 after they became religious.
“When we started here, it was really a question of survival,” Har Sinai said in an exclusive interview with Tazpit News Agency last week.
At that time, there were only 10 families living in Susiya according to Har Sinai. “But we were the only farmers among the residents. The land was barren – this was state land that had been captured from Jordan during 1967,” said Har Sinai.
The Har Sinais had plenty of experience with agriculture prior to moving to Susiya. In Emek Hefer, they ran a dairy farm and later spent four months in the United States learning about organic farming from American farmers. The couple began implementing organic farming methods in Susiya as well, growing grapes, olives, and wheat with organic farming and environmentally-friendly techniques.

A PALESTINIAN man has been shot dead by Israeli soldiers in the northern Gaza strip, Palestinian medical sources say.
The victim, 36-year-old Houshabe Abou Houshabe, was a civilian. He was killed by Israeli gunfire, according to the sources.
The Israeli military said its soldiers shot two Palestinians who tampered with the border fence between Israel and the Gaza strip.
The military said the Palestinians approached the fence and damaged it, posing an "imminent danger".
The army said "a hit was confirmed" on both, but refused to elaborate.
Israel considers the Gaza strip a hostile entity because the militant Islamic group Hamas rules there, and because militants in the seaside territory have carried out attacks on Israel.

Anybody wanting to lampoon the Obama presidency is out of luck — there is no way to top the real thing. From being outmaneuvered by Russia to erasing red lines in Syria and getting snubbed by Iran, September was the cruelest month.
That’s only half the bad news. For as small as the president looked abroad, he looked downright childish at home.
He is following his failure to negotiate successfully on the world stage with a refusal to negotiate at all at home. His message to Republicans on both the debt ceiling and ObamaCare is the same: nyet, nyet.
Call him confused about who the enemy is.
The dynamic is startling. The more the world pushes Barack Obama around, the more he pushes back at home. It reminds me of a Mort Sahl joke from the Cold War: Every time the Soviets lock up an American, we retaliate by locking up an American.

A court ruling that allowed girls to play on boys teams in Pennsylvania will reportedly be reconsidered this week, potentially paving the way for a ban on cross-gender play in the state.
Olivier Everts, a 15-year-old junior at Conestoga High School, has been the lead scorer on the girls' field hockey team for the past two seasons while donning the same uniform as his female counterparts, kilt included. Like hundreds of other student athletes across the state, Everts is able to compete thanks to a 1975 court decision that invalidated a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) rule that banned girls from playing on boys teams, Philly.com reports.
But PIAA officials are now deciding whether to revisit the issue, as the association joined a couple from Pittsburgh who asked a judge to overturn the 38-year-old ruling, citing the competitive imbalance boys were causing in their daughters' field hockey contests.
The association removed the previous rule banning cross-gender play from its bylaws in 1975, although individual schools can still ban the practice, PIAA Associate Executive Director Melissa Mertz told the newspaper.

Lebanon is homing in on Israel's territorial waters, according to a report in Globes.
Official Israeli sources told the newspaper that Lebanon is about to award offshore oil and gas exploration licenses in areas that encroach on Israel's exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
Lebanon published tenders for offshore oil and gas explorationlicenses in early September, in five blocks in its EEZ.
It is a highly provocative act which has the potential to greatly inflame hostilities between the two nations.
“Israeli sources who examined the coordinates found that the area of the southernmost license, Block 9, encroaches on the border that Israel claims for its EEZ,” wrote Globes. “This license is considered attractive with high chances of a major natural gas discovery.”
Israel's Petroleum Commissioner Alexander Varshavsky presented the findings of this review at an international energy conference in Cyprus two weeks ago. He emphasized that Israel has refrained from taking similar steps, and did not award oil and gas exploration licenses in disputed areas.

It came to pass,not to stay. Many a times for us as Christians we are faced with issues, situations and circumstances that makes us doubt whether all the promises made to us in the bible can actually come to pass. Sometimes we hear a good message and our faith is stirred up within us...faith cometh by hearing..we begin to believe God for greater things. But after a while we begin to lose faith and doubt whether those promises are actually true or if they are only meant for a particular set of people. In fact, some of us actually heard clearly what God wants to do for us but our present circumstance does not in anyway indicate any possibility of manifestation. We are so overwhelmed by the problem that we fail to see the possibility of a solution.
Hannah was in such a situation. She was married to a man called Elkanah who despite his profession of love to Hannah still had another woman, Peninnah (Pearl) to warm his bed. To make matters worse Hannah was barren while her adversary had children...Have you ever been in a situation where it looks like everything is just going wrong for you...you lose your husband,lose your wife, lose your children, lose your home, lose your job and at the point of losing your mind..has anyone ever felt like world is crashing down on them. Bible says that Hannah’s adversary (Peninnah) provoked her sore..An adversary is an opponent, one who stands in your way of progress, hinders you, resist you. In fact that is the devil’s position..who or what is your own Peninnah? Remember Peninnah means pearl and from my understanding of english language pearl is supposed to be beautiful. It is used to decorate or adorn women to enhance their beauty.
Are there not things in your life that are supposed to add colour to your life but have now turned to an adversary? Are there not people who from afar look so wonderful to you but when you get close you find out they are not so so beautiful on the inside. Has God given you a good job and now it seems you’re about to lose that job? Have you had a wonderful wedding only to return to the court later to file for divorce? Peninnah! How do I deal with this pearl that has turn to a shackle. Bible says Hannah wept sore...have you been weeping secretly in your closet? Everytime children are born it reminds Hannah of her own deficiency...what testimonies have you heard and it reminds you of your own impossibilities.
No matter how good intentioned any man may have, they don’t have the solution or the answer to your problem,have your friends in trying to help you offered you a substitute for what you really want? has your family ’organized’ a replacement for what God promised you? People say when the desirable is unavailable then the available becomes the desirable...but I beg to defer, I will not take a substitute for my promise.
Hannah wept before Elkanah but when she discovered that her help cannot come from Elkanah she went to the Source,"GOD" For how long will you let man see your tears? The best you can get from them is sympathy. Take your tears to the one who is able to help you. 1 Samuel 1:12, bible says ’And it came to pass.May God grant you your heart’s desires in Jesus name. 1 Samuel 1:20 ’...it came to pass...’

It is not left to our own option whether we shall praise God or not. Praise is God's most righteous due, and every Christian, as the recipient of his grace, is bound to praise God from day to day. It is true we have no authoritative rubric for daily praise; we have no commandment prescribing certain hours of song and thanksgiving: but the law written upon the heart teaches us that it is right to praise God; and the unwritten mandate comes to us with as much force as if it had been recorded on the tables of stone, or handed to us from the top of thundering Sinai. Yes, it is the Christian's duty to praise God. It is not only a pleasurable exercise, but it is the absolute obligation of his life. Think not ye who are always mourning, that ye are guiltless in this respect, or imagine that ye can discharge your duty to your God without songs of praise. You are bound by the bonds of his love to bless his name so long as you live, and his praise should continually be in your mouth, for you are blessed, in order that you may bless him; "this people have I formed for myself, they shall show forth my praise"; and if you do not praise God, you are not bringing forth the fruit which he, as the Divine Husbandman, has a right to expect at your hands. Let not your harp then hang upon the willows, but take it down, and strive, with a grateful heart, to bring forth its loudest music. Arise and chant his praise. With every morning's dawn, lift up your notes of thanksgiving, and let every setting sun be followed with your song. Girdle the earth with your praises; surround it with an atmosphere of melody, and God himself will hearken from heaven and accept your music.

Life is a precious thing, and in its humblest form it is superior to death. This truth is eminently certain in spiritual things. It is better to be the least in the kingdom of heaven than the greatest out of it. The lowest degree of grace is superior to the noblest development of unregenerate nature. Where the Holy Ghost implants divine life in the soul, there is a precious deposit which none of the refinements of education can equal. The thief on the cross excels Caesar on his throne; Lazarus among the dogs is better than Cicero among the senators; and the most unlettered Christian is in the sight of God superior to Plato. Life is the badge of nobility in the realm of spiritual things, and men without it are only coarser or finer specimens of the same lifeless material, needing to be quickened, for they are dead in trespasses and sins.
A living, loving, gospel sermon, however unlearned in matter and uncouth in style, is better than the finest discourse devoid of unction and power. A living dog keeps better watch than a dead lion, and is of more service to his master; and so the poorest spiritual preacher is infinitely to be preferred to the exquisite orator who has no wisdom but that of words, no energy but that of sound. The like holds good of our prayers and other religious exercises; if we are quickened in them by the Holy Spirit, they are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ, though we may think them to be worthless things; while our grand performances in which our hearts were absent, like dead lions, are mere carrion in the sight of the living God. O for living groans, living sighs, living despondencies, rather than lifeless songs and dead calms. Better anything than death. The snarlings of the dog of hell will at least keep us awake, but dead faith and dead profession, what greater curses can a man have? Quicken us, quicken us, O Lord!
