The inevitability of Obamacare for illegal aliens

You knew it was coming. I knew it was coming. When government expands entitlements, illegal aliens always end up with a piece of the pie. Obamacare promoters relented to GOP pressure to include an illegal alien ban on eligibility and vowed endlessly that no benefits would go to the “undocumented.” But denial isn’t just a river in Egypt. It’s the Obama way...

You know it.  I know it.  And now we know the President knows it.
ObamaCare is a mess, and President Obama and the Democrats know that if something doesn't change, ObamaCare will ruin their chances for any victories on Election Day this November.
That is why yesterday the Obama Administration announced that individuals who have health plans that don't meet the standards of ObamaCare can keep those plans for at least two more years, conveniently through the next election and through the end of his term.
What?  Patriot Voices has been putting the pressure on the media and grassroots activists to expose the failures of ObamaCare, and its working!
On the surface this seems like a fair gesture from President Obama.  He is acknowledging that folks shouldn't suffer by losing their health plans because they don't fit under ObamaCare.
But that's just it.  He is acknowledging that ObamaCare is a horrible law.  And while he and the Democrats in Congress criticize Republicans for trying to dismantle it, he is doing so bit by bit.
President Obama knows what a political nightmare it would be for folks to have to deal with ObamaCare so he's essentially decided, hey, let's wait until after I am out of office to make everyone suffer the failures of this dreaded law.
And while President Obama dismantles it piece by piece in an acknowledgement of its failure, Patriot Voices and our conservative friends will keep up the pressure so that one day this law is completely and wholly repealed by Congress.
Basically, what he and his administration did yesterday is admit that ObamaCare is such a disaster that if they don't give folks some leeway on adhering to this law, Democrats will suffer big-time next Election Day.
We have seen so many exemptions to this law and so many changes that no one knows what they are supposed to have, how they are supposed to get it, and why they have to have it.  Frankly, I think the Obama Administration likes it that way.
Patriot Voices has been pointing out the failures of ObamaCare since our organization started after my run for President, and we're going to keep the pressure on and expose ObamaCare for what it is - a failure of epic proportions.
Sincerely,
Rick Santorum signature

From Industry Experts ...
What's Wrong with Lobbying?
By Stephanie Vance

Did you know that the lobbying industry spent over $3.21 billion in 2013? Or that there are over 12,000 registered lobbyists? How about that most citizens hold an incredibly low opinion of the profession? In fact, a Gallup poll from December 2013 shows that just 6% of Americans see lobbyists as honest and ethical - below even members of Congress at 8%. Who wants to be in a career like that?

The answer is: we should all be proud to be lobbying professionals. Lobbying traces its roots back to our unalienable rights under the First Amendment to petition our government - a right that is lacking in many parts of the globe. So what's a poor lobbyist to do to combat the ill will? Here are a few ideas:
  • Understand the role lobbying plays in the legislative process: With 10,000 bills introduced every two-year Congressional session, members of Congress and their staff need information to make decisions that will best benefit their constituents. Sure, your information may reflect just your side of the argument; but remember that everyone contacting his/her legislators, whether lobbyist or private citizen, prefers one solution over another. That's the basis of citizen participation.
  • Embrace all your duties as a lobbyist: You do far more than walk into legislative offices and try to persuade them to agree with you, right? You keep track of legislative initiatives, develop arguments, build a strategy, etc. In fact, most lobbyists spend very little of their time on Capitol Hill. Clarifying to others everything that goes into your work may help them see you in a more positive light.
  • Engage true "non-lobbyists" in the process: Citizens tend to think that campaign money buys not just votes, but access as well. In truth, the most influential people in the Congressional decision making process are constituents, and they often have more access than lobbyists. When our firm schedules lobby day meetings, for example, we get on average 99% of the meetings we request, simply on a constituent basis. No money. No bribes. Just representative democracy at work.
  • Maintain your own high standards: Truly effective lobbyists know that mentoring a legislator's campaign during a policy meeting is not only ineffective, but it is often offensive (and sometimes illegal, depending on how you raise the issue). Always separate policy from politics, even if you're engaged in both. In short, if you're ashamed to tell your mother what you do on a daily basis, you're probably not doing it right.
Perhaps most important, be proud! Public perceptions may never change, but we must keep fighting the good fight for the lobbying profession - just like we do on Capitol Hill.
Stephanie Vance, the Advocacy Guru and former Capitol Hill chief of staff, is the author of five books on effective advocacy, including The Influence Game. She lives and works in Washington, DC, offering workshops and training on effective advocacy. Find out more atwww.advocacyguru.com.

Five Principles for Effective Legislative Communications:

The "CHATS Method" for Communicating with Congressional Members and Staff

C-onnect to Find Something in Common
Learn what is important to the policymaker. Where they stand depends on where they sit. Make your connection to the member's constituency. What is your interest's relationship to the district or state? What are the factors that will drive the member's decision-making process? Does the member have a leadership role on any committees, caucuses or informal groups? Be a student of the policymaker and his or her past statements or positions on the issue (including press received and statements made during political campaigns).

H-ear
One of the greatest secrets of effective lobbying is to listen first. Sincere listening cannot be faked. Our mindset matters. What is the member's real priority or concern? Does he or she have any remaining questions on the issue?

A-void Arguing
"I never saw an instance of one or two disputants convincing the other by argument." - Thomas Jefferson

T-ake the Temperature
Questions are powerful. Ask questions to take the temperature and determine where they stand on the issue and try to determine if they have made a decision before making your pitch. Silence does not indicate consent. Watch body language and ask how they are doing on time. Ask questions to understand the thinking behind their position or concerns and to ensure a dialogue instead of alternating monologues. Know when to be silent and know when to stop.

S-ow Seeds for Consideration
Securing a commitment or change to an established position usually takes some time. We should not expect a dramatic or instant change in the course of just one lobbying meeting. People often need numerous or additional credible and influential contacts to change their position. People need time to process a new position and "own" it. Leave them with a "point to ponder" that they can consider. Follow-up and be persistent without becoming annoying.
