Tue Sep 24th Todays News

The murderous assault in Kenya is ending in its fourth day. In further developments, an off duty SAS soldier saved a hundred people, going into the kill zone a dozen times. A female, thought to be a widow of a London terrorist suicide bomber and planner of this assault is among the dead. But still fighting continues.
Meanwhile in Australia, AGW believers are crying censorship because they are not being given public money to spread their hysteria. Flannery is threatening to start a commercial propagandist interest offering 'impartial' hysteric advice. Suzuki has been fact checked. He has been given many rostrum to spread his lies, but they are lies. Paul Barry has attacked independent voices who are critical of AGW hysteria.
The NBN board has been asked to resign. It is anticipated that the NBN will continue, as is, short term, until someone can make it effective. A human rights lawyer verbally assaults those who don't think it is compassionate to drown desperate people. The government decision to not broadcast each boat arrival, but give a weekly report is denounced as censorship .. but it is merely silencing a siren call.
Pru Goward is still effectively defending her reputation from the terrible slime of the ALP. The ALP are using leaks to show their ineffective administration had been killing children. In this case they accuse Pru Goward of using more case workers (they claim less, despite facts) to investigate serious cases. It is a cheap shot, but it hurts too. Nobody likes children dying from neglect.
Really disturbing is the Australian Conservative Libertarian group dropping all pretence to Conservatism and Libertarianism, and embracing racism.

David Suzuki proves he’s pig ignorant about global warming

Andrew Bolt September 24 2013 (2:52pm)

Global warming - propaganda, Interviews with warmists like Flannery
The very first question put to David Suzuki on Q&A last night revealed this warming alarmist’s complete ignorance of the most basic facts of global warming.
Fancy Suzuki not even knowing what the world’s main temperature data sets say about global temperatures. Fancy him not even knowing what those data sets are, even when he is given their names.
The only rational response to Suzuki’s astonishing admission of utter ignorance would have been to say to him: “Sir, you are a phony and imposter. Get off the stage and don’t waste our time for a second longer.”
Read the exchange for yourself:
BILL KOUTALIANOS: Oh, hi. Since 1998 global temperatures have been relatively flat, yet many man-made global warming advocates refuse to acknowledge this simple fact. Has man-made global warming become a new religion in itself?
TONY JONES: David, go ahead.
DAVID SUZUKI: Yeah, well, I don’t know why you’re saying that. The ten hottest years on record, as I understand it, have been in this century. In fact, the warming continues. It may have slowed down but the warming continues and everybody is anticipating some kind of revelation in the next IPCC reports that are saying we got it wrong. As far as I understand, we haven’t. So where are you getting your information? I’m not a climatologist. I wait for the climatologists to tell us what they’re thinking.
TONY JONES: Do you want to respond to that, Bill?
BILL KOUTALIANOS: Sure, yeah. UAH, RSS, HadCRUT, GISS data shows a 17-year flat trend which suggests there may be something wrong with the Co2 warming theory?
DAVID SUZUKI: Sorry, yeah, what is the reference? I don’t…
BILL KOUTALIANOS: Well, they’re the main data sets that IPCC use: UAH, University of Alabama, Huntsville; GISS, Goddard Institute of Science; HadCRUT. I don’t know what that stands for, HadCRUT; and RSS, Remote Sensing something. So those data sets suggest a 17-year flat trend, which suggests there may be a problem with the Co2.
DAVID SUZUKI: No, well, there may be a climate sceptic down in Huntsville, Alabama, who has taken the data and come to that conclusion. I say, let’s wait for the IPCC report to come out and see what the vast bulk of scientists who have been involved in gathering this information will tell us.
See those data sets here.
Like I say, a complete know-nothing, citing false claims:
STEWART FRANKS: In an opinion piece last week you wrote that the Great Barrier Reef was threatened by the increasing frequency of cyclones. Everyone watching and listening can onto the Bureau of Meteorology’s website and see that there is no increase. In fact there has been a decline over the last 40 years and no increase in the severity. Are you not, by exaggerating…
DAVID SUZUKI: That I have to admit…
STEWART FRANKS: ...or even just getting wrong, are you not actually vulnerable of actually undermining your very own aim in that, you know, the Great Barrier Reef does have environmental threat, but cyclones ain’t one of them?
DAVID SUZUKI: All right. That was one, I have to admit, that that was suggested to me by an Australian, and it is true, I mean, it may be a mistake. I don’t know.
Nor does David Suzuki know what the hell he’s on about when he’s fear-mongering about genetically modified crops:
DAVID SUZUKI: Well, I mean, that is always the argument that’s made. GMOs are very, very expensive. Now, the people that need this food are not going to be able to afford it. Are we going to just create these new crops and then give them away? I simply don’t believe that’s what’s going to happen. I don’t think it is a generosity for the rest of humanity that is driving this activity.
RICK ROUSH: Actually, we are. I mean, Bt corn technology has been given away to the Kenyan State Government research people for use for subsistence farmers. Monsanto gave away insect resistant potatoes in Mexico over 20 years ago. James is working on lots of similar cases. In cases where there is no economic return, it is, in fact, being given away and they’re not so difficult to develop. When I was at Cornell, we got a gene that was a gift from Monsanto for experimental purposes. We made broccoli plants that were resistant to attacks of Dimebag Moths. A student - one of our students made about 50 transformants in about six months. The great cost of these things are no longer the actual creation of the plant. It’s the regulatory challenges to take sure that you can take them to market, to do all that safety testing.
TONY JONES: Okay, Rick, well we’ll get a response to that and we’ll move on?
DAVID SUZUKI: Well, I don’t have any response. It sounds great. I don’t know.
How in God’s name could people take this man seriously?

No, Tory, we did not say that and Flannery does not deserve this absurd defence

Andrew Bolt September 24 2013 (12:34pm)

image
Too many commentators seem far too protective of taxpayer-funded warmists who used dodgy claims to terrify people into believing the planet was headed for apocalyptic man-made warming:
Take Tory Shepherd, mourning the sacking of Chief Climate Commissioner Tim Flannery:

... the harm has already been done, and may not be undone when the IPCC actually releases its report on Friday. A report that may concede a ‘pause’ in warming but is sure to provide even more scientific evidence that climate change is occurring and human activity is a major contributor.
Actually, Tory, that concession of a pause is highly significant. Tim Flannery refused to admit there was a pause (although for one moment of weakness in 2009 he did concede it) when his job is actually to give dispassionate, accurate advice. That pause, not predicted by the IPCC (see above) also casts great doubt on the theory of dangerous man-made warming he was peddling with our money.
It is a shame Australians won’t benefit from the insight of the Climate Commission into the report.
Why? The Climate Commission has a disgraceful record of peddling cherry-picked and alarmist claims. Now its members will do that same work for free anyway. We are denied nothing.
In the facile logic that many climate change sceptics employ, Prof Flannery’s occasionally overheated remarks about the future impacts of global warming prove that all warnings are simply “alarmist”.
I’ve never heard that argument made - that because Flannery is wrong, all warnings of future impacts of global warming are wrong, too. Straw man.

It goes something like this: Prof Flannery is a scientist who is vocal about climate change. Some of his predictions have turned out to be wrong. Therefore climate science is wrong.
No, the real argument is this, Prof Flannery is unqualified in climate science. Many of his predictions have turned out to wrong, at great cost to taxpayers. Therefore he is not a credible source of information on climate science and should no longer be paid by taxpayers to make absurdly alarmist claims. Simple.
An oft-cited example is Prof Flannery’s warning that Adelaide could face a water shortage, and that therefore desalination plants were needed.
That’s actually putting the matter very, very generously - generous to Flannery. His actual prediction in 2007 was that “even the rain that falls isn’t actually going to fill our dams and our river systems” - a prediction so absurdly alarmist and wrong that it’s been disproved almost every year since. Moreover, Flannery warned in 2007 that without desalination plants, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide could be out of drinking water by 2009. Those plants were hurriedly built (plus another in Melbourne) at great expense, and now all are mothballed, or about to be, because of the return of the flooding rains Flannery predicted were gone forever. Flannery’s other dud predictions include a possible ice-free Arctic summer this year, a possible permanent drought, and Perth becoming the 21st Century’s “first ghost metropolis”.
The argument is not that all warnings are simply “alarmist”, but simply that Flannery’s too often are - and recklessly so. So why should we pay him?

It’s so easy to make Prof Flannery the straw man, the very public face of climate change ‘alarmism’, but it makes no sense to dismiss all scientific claims about alarming possibilities just because they don’t all turn out to be true.
Again with that straw man.
Scientists simply don’t know exactly how much human activity is to blame, how much the world will warm, and exactly how that warming will affect weather patterns and sea levels.
Exactly our point all along. The “science is settled crowd” represented by the likes of Flannery sold us a certainty that was simply false. One more reason why Flannery should have been sacked.
So why on Earth defend him?

Abbott is just making free speech free. As in: no cost to you

Andrew Bolt September 24 2013 (12:26pm)

A note to the hyperventilating and hypocritcal Left. As Nick Cater points out, Tony Abbott is not silencing debate, but privatising it:
Under Tony Abbott, there will be zero tolerance for evangelism on the public purse on anthropogenic global warming or any other matter…
Labor returned to power in 2007 with a somewhat romantic view of the state, believing that its instruments could be used to teach its citizens how to behave. From teenage binge-drinking to finding the cheapest place for petrol, the all-benevolent hand of the federal government was where wisdom would reside. The Coalition has come to power with the philosophical momentum running its way. The successful application of section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act to censure columnist Andrew Bolt was chilling at the time, but it now appears the case was not the dawning of a new illiberal era but the point at which the Left’s castigatory tendencies went a step too far…
Last year, when former attorney-general Nicola Roxon attempted to reframe anti-discrimination legislation to enshrine the right not to be offended, she had a fight on her hands… In March, the government backed away from legislation regulating the press not because it had come to its senses but because it had lost the argument..
In government, the Coalition intends to push back the intrusive incursions of the state on multiple fronts.

Paul Barry demonstrates the ABC’s shocking group think on global warming

Andrew Bolt September 24 2013 (8:50am)

Maurice Newman warned of the global warming group think in the ABC:

In March 2010 as chairman, I addressed an in-house conference of 250 ABC leaders… I blamed group think and used climate change as an example…
Jonathon Holmes, the presenter of Media Watch, was so angry “he could not concentrate"… I was interviewed by PM and teased as to whether I was a “climate change denier or not as obvious as that?” ...
I retain a deep affection for the ABC. But, like the BBC, there are signs that a small but powerful group has captured the corporation, at least on climate change.
Last night Paul Barry, the latest of a string of warmist hosts of Media Watch, last night demonstrated how right Newman was. He tried to shame sceptics, and in doing so shamed himself with his astonishing warmist bias.
In the past week we’ve had the ABC and Fairfax heap adoration on David Suzuki, allowing the Canadian alarmist - uncontested - to make a series of false claims, including that cyclones were increasing, global warming was responsible for much of the deterioration of the Great Barrier Reef, global warming was behind the destruction of Canadian pine trees, insurance losses were evidence of global warming and scrapping the carbon tax would be “suicidal”.
Barry questioned none of that last night. Nor did he question the disgraceful role of journalists in hyping the great global warming scare that is now crumbling after 15 years of essentially no warming.

Barry criticised instead an error made by The Australian and picked up by some conservative radio presenters who claimed the IPCC had now admitted to a warming of 0.1 of a degree per decade since 1951, after allegedly claiming in 2007 the warming was .2 degrees per decade.
The Australian has acknowledged and publicly corrected that error. But Barry did not merely criticise sceptics for this admitted error while overlooking the unadmitted errors of alarmists.
He then made errors and misleading omissions of his own, so desperate was he to slime sceptics.
Example one:

Barry introduced alarmist Professor David Karoly as “one of Australia’s most eminent climate scientists” and quoted his gloating over The Australian’s mistake without noting Karoly had himself last year made a howler that forced him to withdraw a peer-reviewed paper claiming unprecedented warming in Australasia. That paper was enthusiastically reported by the ABC, but its retraction was - typically - not. Again, Media Watch trumpets the mistakes of sceptics, buries those of warmists.
Example two:

Barry quotes John Cook attacking The Australian, falsely promoting Cook as a “climate expert” and ignoring Cook’s own record of gross error:

That same morning, another Australian climate expert added caustically:

“The Australian article ... demonstrates the inherent dangers in sourcing scientific information from a UK tabloid rather than climate scientists ...
— Media Release: Australian Science Media Centre, John Cook, Research Fellow, Global Change Institute University of Queensland, 16th September, 2013”
In fact, Cook himself concedes ”he is not a climate scientist”.  His latest research, claiming a 97 per cent consensus on global warming theory - a finding heavily and uncritically reported by the ABC - has been exposed as both error-riddled and meaningless, as James Taylor has noted:

Global warming alarmist John Cook ... published a paper with several other global warming alarmists claiming they reviewed nearly 12,000 abstracts of studies published in the peer-reviewed climate literature. Cook reported that he and his colleagues found that 97 percent of the papers that expressed a position on human-caused global warming “endorsed the consensus position that humans are causing global warming."…
The question is meaningless regarding the global warming debate because most skeptics as well as most alarmists believe humans have caused some global warming. The issue of contention dividing alarmists and skeptics is whether humans are causing global warming of such negative severity as to constitute a crisis demanding concerted action.
Either through idiocy, ignorance, or both, global warming alarmists and the liberal media have been reporting that the Cook study shows a 97 percent consensus that humans are causing a global warming crisis. However, that was clearly not the question surveyed.
Investigative journalists at Popular Technology .... found Cook and his colleagues strikingly classified papers by such prominent, vigorous skeptics as Willie Soon, Craig Idso, Nicola Scafetta, Nir Shaviv, Nils-Axel Morner and Alan Carlin as supporting the 97-percent consensus.
Cook and his colleagues, for example, classified a peer-reviewed paper by scientist Craig Idso as explicitly supporting the ‘consensus’ position on global warming “without minimizing” the asserted severity of global warming. When Popular Technology asked Idso whether this was an accurate characterization of his paper, Idso responded, “...It would be incorrect to claim that our paper was an endorsement of CO2-induced global warming.”
When Popular Technology asked physicist Nicola Scafetta whether Cook and his colleagues accurately classified one of his peer-reviewed papers as supporting the ‘consensus’ position, Scafetta similarly criticized the Skeptical Science classification.
“… What my papers say is that the IPCC [United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] view is erroneous because about 40-70% of the global warming observed from 1900 to 2000 was induced by the sun.”
Again, Media Watch has never criticised reporters who misrepesented Cook’s misleading “97 per cent” claim.  It only cites Cook as an “expert” to attack critics.
Example 3:
Barry slimed prominent sceptic Professor Bob Carter, falsely implying he’d endorsed the mistake made by The Australian and repeated by the Daily Telegraph, which quoted Carter:

And who were the ‘Australian scientists’ the Tele relied on?
Well it seems there was only one of them, Bob Carter, until recently at James Cook University in Townsville, who told the Tele’s readers the public had been ‘relentlessly misinformed’.
Inside Professor Bob also penned an opinion piece proclaiming:

“Report gives truth on climate change at last — Daily Telegraph, 17th September, 2013”
But Carter did not make the mistake that Barry nastily implies. He said only this to the Telegraph:

No global warming has now occurred since 1997, despite an increase of atmospheric carbon dioxide of 8%, which in turn represents 34% of all the extra human - related carbon dioxide contributed since the industrial revolution...
What Carter said was actually true. Even the IPCC in drafts of its report admits to a warming of 0.05 degrees over the past 15 years - statistically insignificant only well under what climate models relied upon by the IPCC predicted. Barry has slimed Carter on a false charge and should apologise.
Example 4:

Barry ignores the real finding of the IPCC report - that there was been just 0.05 degrees of warming in 15 years, well under what the climate models relied upon by the IPCC predicted. Barry attacks sceptics, but says nothing about the journalists who uncritically believed the alarmist predictions of warmist scientists and heckled the few journalists who noted warming had paused.
Example 5:
Barry repeats the meaningless, misleading and contested “97 per cent consensus” claim:
Now as I read this, I couldn’t help remembering that most of the world’s scientists still believe man-made global warming is real, and of concern.
And a 5-second search found the figure I was looking for on the US space agency NASA’s website.
“GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE

Consensus: 97% of climate scientists agree — climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus
Paul Barry continues the shameful tradition of the ABC generally and Media Watch particularly of presenting a viciously one-sided view of man-made warming, with alarmists praised and protected and sceptics vilified.
The ABC is out of control. It has betrayed the best traditions of journalism and is preaching religion.
UPDATE
Can reader Indigo possibly have heard right?
Oh my God! I’m in shock! At 11.02 today, ABC 24 admitted there had been no warming for 15 years! They had a couple of climate scientists say a) this was possible due to increased industrial pollution masking the sun or b) the warming is hiding in the ocean. But wait - there was more! A short interview with Andrew Montford (http://bishophill.squarespace.com/), an AGW non-believer, who basically said the science is NOT settled. Is this a first for the ABC? The wheels must be falling off the IPCC wagon. Oh to be a fly on the wall in Stockholm.
UPDATE
Give credit where it is due. ABC 24 did today run this BBC piece acknowledging the pause in global warming so long denied or ignored by the ABC.

Burnside fails the Godwin test

Al Shabab - a new international jihadist force

Andrew Bolt September 24 2013 (6:56am)

Kenyan and Israeli forces have killed three and arrested more than10 of the terrorists who slaughtered at least 62 people at a shopping mall:

Earlier witness reports had indicated that a woman was among the estimated 10 to 15 attackers. [Interior Minister Joseph Ole] Lenku said that instead some male attackers had dressed up like women…
Fighters from an array of nations participated in the attack claimed by al-Shabab, said [Kenya Chief of Defense forces Gen. Julius] Karangi.
“We have an idea who these people are and they are clearly a multinational collection from all over the world,” he said.
Andrew Zammit of Monash University’s Global Terrorism Research Centre, writing last year:

In August 2009, Australian security agencies foiled an al-Shabab associated plot to attack Holsworthy Army Barracks in Sydney. Codenamed Operation Neath, the counterterrorism operation disrupted the mass-shooting plot in its early stages. Five men were charged, and three—Wissam Fattal, Saney Edow Aweys and Nayef el-Sayed—were convicted of planning to attack the barracks. The men had sought weapons, dispatched others for training, conducted reconnaissance of Holsworthy Barracks and asked senior al-Shabab religious figures in Somalia for permission to attack Australian targets…
In 2007, the Australian Federal Police launched Operation Rochester to investigate reports of Somali-Australians traveling to fight for al-Shabab against the Ethiopian-backed Transitional Federal Government. That investigation ended because not enough evidence could be gathered to press charges. Operation Neath began in February 2009 as another investigation into al-Shabab support, with around 20 people—including Aweys, Fattal and el-Sayed—suspected of assisting the Somali jihadist movement. By 2009, this small support network had expanded beyond the Somali diaspora to include people of other backgrounds, mainly from Middle Eastern countries who lacked the nationalist element in their motivation. Of the three convicted in the Holsworthy Barracks plot, only Saney Aweys, the key link to al-Shabab, was from the Somali diaspora; Wissam Fattal and Nayef el-Sayed were of Lebanese descent…
Al-Shabab itself also played little direct role in the cell’s transformation: its globally focused discourse and alignment with al-Qa`ida may have helped enable it, but the Somali jihadist movement did not instigate the plot and key figures advised against it to avoid losing support. This supports other findings that al-Shabab is not known to have directed any attacks in the West. Despite its endorsement of al-Qa`ida’s global jihad, they have instead focused on local and regional politics, although this certainly has the potential to change with the recent al-Qa`ida merger.

Somalis in Australia admit to a radicalisation here, absurdly supported with taxpayers’ money:

SOMALI community leaders warned yesterday that education authorities had ignored calls to regulate madrassas, or religious schools, which were free to teach radical religious doctrines to young people and could be a fertile ground for recruiting jihadists in Australia for terrorist groups such as al-Shabab.
Somali Cultural Association president Aden Ibrahim said he and his colleagues had urged state and federal authorities for the past five years to close a loophole that had allowed religious leaders to set up the schools in Australia without any regulation of, or control over, the curriculum.
Mr Ibrahim said al-Shabab, which has claimed responsibility for the Westgate shopping mall massacre in Nairobi, had little support among Somalis in Australia… But, Mr Ibrahim said, in the absence of proper oversight [the weekend madrassas] sometimes promoted hardline religious doctrines.
The madrassas, many of which receive government funding of up to $30,000 a year, were allowed a free hand in what they taught… Mr Ibrahim said there had been concerns in the community about what was being taught in madrassas, including those at Braybrook and Broadmeadows…
Somali Australian Council of Victoria president Hussein Nur Haraco said community leaders had backed the creation of the madrassas as an alternative to parents sending children to Somalia for their education, where they could fall under the spell of radical groups such as al-Shabab.
Many local Somalis were fearful of speaking out about al-Shabab, claiming there were former operatives who had gone to Somalia to fight but had now returned to Australia.
If local Somalis are worried about al-Shabab fighters in Australia, shouldn’t the rest of us be, too?

NBN board effectively sacked because of more blowouts

Andrew Bolt September 24 2013 (6:49am)

I hope the first item of business of the new board will be to commission an audit of the NBN’s true position and explain to taxpayers what a scandalous disaster this has been:

BALLOONING costs and further serious delays in the National Broadband Network rollout prompted Malcolm Turnbull’s decision to demand the resignation of the entire NBN board and seek the installation of Ziggy Switkowski as executive chairman.
The Communications Minister will ask federal cabinet to endorse the former Telstra and Optus chief as the NBN Co executive chairman after discovering the $37.4 billion project faces a deteriorating financial position and will miss its rollout target for June next year by more than half a million premises.
Contrary to media reports yesterday that the NBN Co directors offered their resignations, Mr Turnbull initiated the dramatic action against the board soon after being sworn in as minister.

Greg Hunt has to explain free speech to the ABC

Andrew Bolt September 24 2013 (6:24am)

Just in case we run out of alarmists:

The Climate Commission, axed last week by the Abbott government, is to be rejuvenated by private funding in an effort to keep information about global warming prominent in the public arena, former chief commissioner Tim Flannery has said.
The decision to create the Australian Climate Council, as the group will now be known, was spurred by ‘’a groundswell of support’’ across the country, Professor Flannery said…
Most, if not all, of the six commissioners will be directors of the Australian Climate Council - among them ANU climate scientist Will Steffen and former BP Australasia president Gerry Hueston.
Environment Minister Greg Hunt seizes this opportunity to demonstrate the power of free markets and free speech, and the virtues of small government:

That’s the great thing about democracy. It is a free country. It proves our point that the commission did not have to be a taxpayer funded body.
And when the ABC’s Emma Alberici frowns that “people with profile” such as the government’s chief business adviser, former ABC chairman Maurice Newman, are “continuing to claim that climate change is a big lie” (a misleadingly crude summary of their views), Hunt again has to make the very obvious point:

I think we should be very careful about trying to clamp down on anybody’s freedom of speech. That’s where we get truth, through the debate… What a country it would be if suddenly we were to squash people on either side. I think you’ve got to welcome the differing voices.
UPDATE
ABC Melbourne is furiously promoting a fund-raising drive for this new Climate Council. Flannery boasts that a huge grass roots reaction has produced $1000 overnight.
If my grass had roots like that it would be a dust bowl.
If the ABC is that impressed by such fundraising, I’d love it to switch to private funding itself.

Suzuki revealed as complete know-nothing by very first question on Q&A

Andrew Bolt September 23 2013 (9:38pm)

Oh. My. God.
David Suzuki on the very first question is revealed as a complete know-nothing. His questioner tells him that the main climate data sets show no real warming for some 15 years.
Suzuki asks for the references, which he should have known if he knew anything of the science.
His questioner then lists them: UAH, RSS, HadCrut and GISS - four of the most basic measurement systems of global temperature.
Suzuki asks what they are.
Anyone interested in global warming should know right there that Suzuki has absolutely no understanding of what he is talking about.
In my opinion he is a phoney.
Here, for Suzuki’s information, is the GISS measurement:

image
Here is the UAH data:
image
Here is the RSS data:
image
Here is HadCRUT:

image
UPDATE
Naturally, one of the questions is from Nell Schofield, the female voiceover of Media Watch. Just as naturally, she is a global warming believer. Media Watch earlier attacked journalists for getting wrong a report on the IPCC, while being silent on the exaggerations of a Suzuki. Former ABC chairman Maurice Newman is right: there is an ABC “groupthink” on climate change.
UPDATE
Challenged from the floor by Professor Stewart Franks, Suzuki admits he might have been mistaken in claiming global warming was causing more cyclones, which he blamed for killing the Great Barrier Reef. He blames some Australian for “suggesting” it to him. The truth, as I’ve noted before, is easily found on the Bureau of Meteorology website:
image
How could Suzuki not have known this, especially since there has also been no increase world-wide in cyclones or hurricanes?
This man, in my opinion, is a phoney who lacks the most elementary knowledge of global warming data.
UPDATE
Suzuki stands by his claims that politicians who question the global warming faith should be jailed. Then, when host Tony Jones looks surprised, he says he hasn’t thought it through.
UPDATE
Suzuki is then challenged by an academic on his claim we should forget nuclear power and switch to solar power. The scientist points out the technology for massive solar batteries does not exist yet. Suzuki concedes he does not know.
UPDATE
Another questioner challenges Suzuki on his irrational scaremongering on GM crops and asks for his evidence. Suzuki says “we just don’t know enough” - the great cop out. He has no evidence. He gives some whacky analogy about orchestras.
In my opinion, this man is a phoney.
UPDATE
A researcher into GM bananas, putting in more eyesight-saving vitamin A for countries where bananas are a staple, asks again about Suzuki’s irrational attacks on GM crops.
Suzuki now denies this is “bad science”. But keeps saying we don’t know enough. “What’s the rush?” he demands. It’s been driven by money, complains multi-millionaire Suzuki, who charged a college more than $30,000 to give a speech.
Something tells me no information whatsover would ever be enough for this alarmist. Let the kids go blind.
The Professor says this “rush” is actually 30 years. He then whacks Suzuki on his DDT alarmism.

Suzuki again trots out his old conspiracy that the GM crops are just about money and are too expensive and are not developed to do good.
The Professor whacks him again, noting several examples of GM technology being given away for free to feed poor countries.
“I don’t know,” says Suzuki.
In my opinion he is a complete phoney.

Pray Along,
Father, I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Thank You for ordering my steps and ordaining my future. I trust You as You lead and guide me into victory in Jesus’ name. Amen.
=
Go Out With Boldness As Your Days Are Ordained.
All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.(Psalm 139:16, NIV)
God has already planned out every detail of your life right down to the very second. Our God is not an approximate God. He is an exact God, a detailed God, a precise God. He has planned out your life not just to the years or the months or the days, but down to the very second. In your future, He has marked moments where time and eternity are going to come together, and you will be at the right place and get the break you need.

Scripture says that before you were born, God knew you. He knew every one of your days before they ever took shape. Trust Him and stay in peace because your days are ordained by the Lord.God bless you.

Oftentimes, we have to go through the wilderness before we reach our promised land. Oftentimes, like Joseph, we feel like we are in a pit long before we ever see the palace. Maybe you’re in a season right now where you don’t see anything happening. You think, “I’ve been praying and believing for a year, five years, ten years. It’s never going to work out.”

No, be encouraged today. Stay the course. Keep believing. You may be tired, discouraged and tempted to be frustrated, but don’t give up on your future. Stay on the high road. Our God is a faithful God. It may be taking a long time, but what He started He will finish in your life. Scripture says the eyes of the Lord search to and fro to find someone who will be faithful on His behalf. Be the person He finds faithful. Keep believing, keep praying, keep obeying and stay the course because He is leading you in the path of victory.Amen.

COMPULSIVE users of porn show the same signs of addiction in their brain as those hooked on booze or drugs, according to researchers.
The brains of young men who are obsessed by online pornography 'lit up like Christmas trees' upon being shown erotic images, a pioneering study has found.
The area stimulated - the part of the brain involved in processing reward, motivation and pleasure - is the same part that is highly active among drug and alcohol addicts.
The Cambridge University research, the first of its kind in the world, coincides with a survey which revealed that watching porn online is the norm for boys as young as 13.
Campaigners have also warned that increasing porn use among teenagers warps their view of sex and prompts boys to treat girls as sex objects.
However, until now the actual effects of pornography on the brain have been unclear. Dr Valerie Voon, a Cambridge University neuroscientist specialising in addictions, studied 19 self-confessed compulsive pornography users. The men, aged 19 to 34, had tried and failed to break their habit and had lost relationships and jobs as a result.
All fed their habit using online porn. When they were shown erotic video clips, a part of their brains lit up called the ventral striatum.
It is the same part of the brain that springs to life when a drug addict sees a dealer or an alcoholic sees an advert for drink.
When they were shown non-erotic but exciting sports images, the men's brains reacted far less strongly.
Similarly, the reaction was weak in men who were not obsessed by porn.
Dr Voon plans to look at whether learning more about the brain will lead to new ways of treating or breaking an addiction to pornography. Her research will feature in documentary Porn On The Brain, presented by Martin Daubney, the former editor of lads' mag Loaded.
Mr Daubney spent a year talking to scientists, teenage boys and teachers for the documentary which will be screened next Monday.
"The age of innocence is over," he said. "The internet is now a rolling buffet of online depravity. Given what we now know about porn seemingly being addictive, it's like leaving heroin around the house for kids to take."
Some doctors have argued that heavy users of porn show the same traits of addiction as alcoholics and drug addicts.
In evidence to the United States Congress in 2008, psychiatrist Jeffrey Satinover said that "Modern science allows us to understand that the underlying nature of an addiction to pornography is chemically nearly identical to a heroin addiction: only the delivery system is different."

And then it got nasty. Picture: Redit

Thurman Winston, born in Oklahoma, seems to have lived a pleasant life, and his obituary lovingly made that clear. At least, in the first 38 lines.
But in the final two sentences, for those keen beans who read right to the end, the note launched a stunning attack on his grandchildren.
The obituary, which has stirred up the natives on Reddit, begins waxing lyrical:
"Thurman moved his family home to Spencer so his kids could experience the love of their remaining grandparents.
"He has a passion for cars, motorcycles and entertaining family and friends, hunting, fishing and remodelling. His motto: 'Accomplish what you can because tomorrow ain't promised'."
"He stayed busy. He leaves to cherish his memories of his wife, children and grandkids, a host of backstabbing mother f*****s that still owe him money."

The former FBI agent who pleaded guilty to child pornography charges earlier this year will also plead guilty to leaking classified information about an Al Qaeda bomb plot to The Associated Press - in a case of spilled secrets that the Justice Department called one of the most serious in U.S. history.
Donald John Sachtleben of Carmel, Ind., a former FBI technician and government contractor, has signed plea agreements in both cases, the U.S. attorney’s office said Monday.
“I am deeply sorry for my actions,” Sachtleben said in a written statement. “While I never intended harm to the United States or to any individuals, I do not make excuses for myself. I understand and accept that today’s filings start the process of paying the full consequences of my misconduct, and I know that the justice system I once served so proudly will have its say."
Charges in the child pornography case against Sachtleben were filed in May 2012 after law enforcement officials said they found child porn they were able to trace to his home computer. That complaint alleges that an examination of Sachtleben’s laptop revealed the presence of about 30 images of child porn that he is accused of trading with other people using the email address pedodave69@yahoo.com.
Nine days before those charges were filed, prosecutors say Sachtleben gave up national defense information to a news reporter related to a disrupted terrorist plot.
The documents in the AP leaker case were filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
Charging documents allege Sachtleben knew that information would compromise national security. They also claim the information related to a foiled plot by Yemen-based terrorist organization Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula to bomb a U.S.-bound airliner.
“We were given the task of uncovering who had threatened a sensitive intelligence operation and endangered lives by illegally disclosing classified information relating to a disrupted Al Qaeda suicide bomb plot,” U.S. Attorney Ron Machen said. “That plot could not have been more serious. … This prosecution demonstrates our deep resolve to hold accountable anyone who would violate their solemn duty to protect our nation’s secrets and to prevent future, potentially devastating leaks by those who would wantonly ignore their obligations to safeguard classified information.”
The investigation into who leaked top secret information to the AP began a national debate over the rights of the press.
AP President Gary Pruitt said at the time that “there can be no possible justification for such an overbroad collection of the telephone communications of The Associated Press and its reporters.”
Sachtleben had been employed in the Department of Forensic Sciences at Oklahoma State University. He spent over 25 years as a special agent bomb technician in the FBI before retiring in 2008. He specialized in counter terrorism and bombing investigations.

The Afghan interpreter who finally received a visa for a new life in the U.S.could have it revoked after only two weeks -- and has gone into hiding amid fears he and his family have become targets of the Taliban.
Janis Shinwary already had quit his job as a translator for the U.S. military stationed in Afghanistan and sold all of his family’s possessions in anticipation for moving stateside. But the process to obtain the visa, which already put him and his loved ones in harm’s way, has apparently stalled with no explanation from the U.S. Embassy in Kabul.
“If you are getting a visa, you are expecting a new life,” Shinwary said to FoxNews.com via phone from an undisclosed location in Afghanistan. “I started to sell everything we owned–even my kids’ toys.”

John Ceruto

AN EXPECTANT father was naked, drunk, had drugs in his system and was driving to hospital at twice the speed limit when he crashed his car, killing his fiancee and unborn child, a court has heard.
Lisa Smith, 23, was pregnant with her third child when a car driven by John Ceruto crashed into a Stobie pole at Woodville Park in January this year, during a hospital dash after Ms Smith complained of severe abdominal pain.
The baby, a boy, had been due March 10.
Ms Smith left behind two children, Hannah and Blake, who now live with their grandparents.
Today Ceruto, 31, of Woodville Park, faced the District Court for sentencing submissions.
He had previously pleaded guilty to one aggravated count of causing Ms Smith’s death by dangerous driving, and to driving unlicensed.
In court, a victim-impact statement written by Ms Smith's mother, Kerri-Anne, was read aloud.
“I find it difficult to know the only people who helped Lisa after the crash were the strangers to whom I am so grateful,” Mrs Smith wrote.

SAMANTHA Lewthwaite has emerged as a prime suspect behind the bloodshed in Kenya but who is the 29-year-old woman thought responsible for so much carnage?
Dubbed the 'White Widow' by Britain's media, the mother-of-four has emerged as the prime suspect in the Nairobi massacre.
The widow of suicide bomber Jermaine Lindsay, Lewthwaite is believed to have ordered the Nairobi attack or even led it herself.
Soldiers said a white woman wearing a veil was shouting orders to gunmen in Arabic during the bloody massacre inside the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, the Daily Mail reports.
As soldiers closed in on the terrorists, one said the scene is "all being controlled by this muzungu [Swahili for white] woman. She is ordering them what to do. We are getting closer to them".
Some survivors say a veiled woman was commanding the al-Shabaab militants as they attacked people in the Nairobi mall while other survivors simply say saw a "white woman" among the hostage-takers.
Police have told reporters that they are still investigating the possibility the woman may have been a hostage dressed in one of the terrorists' clothes as a "decoy" during the attack which saw Kenyan authorities regain control of most of the four-storey shopping mall.
However Kenyan anti-terror police revealed yesterday that Lewthwaite may be the brains behind the operation to bring terror to the heart of Kenya, the Daily Mail reports.

SAS Nairobi

KENYAN troops are battling the Islamists making their final stand in a deadly shopping mall siege, on the fourth day of the attack.
Sporadic shooting at the upmarket Westgate mall broke out again at dawn, hours after officials had claimed Kenyan troops were in "control" of the sprawling complex.
Islamist al-Shabab fighters claimed they are still holding hostages inside.

"The hostages who were being held by the mujahedeen inside Westgate are still alive, looking quite disconcerted but, nevertheless, alive," the Shebab said in a message posted on their latest Twitter account.

At least 62 shoppers and staff have been killed and close to 200 wounded in the siege, but concerns are high that the toll may yet rise.

Security sources said "one or two" militants were taking a final stand against special forces in or around a casino on one of the upper floors of the complex.

Government spokesman Manoah Esipisu told AFP early today the siege was close to being declared over, with special forces "sanitising" the complex in case "there are a couple of them hiding in a remote room or corner."

As the interior ministry said early Tuesday that all hostages trapped by the militants are believed to have been freed, Kenyan Foreign Minister Amina Mohamed said that several American nationals and a British woman were among the fighters.
The latest developments come after an off-duty member of Britain's special forces reportedly helped save a hundred lives as terrorists launched their attack.
The Daily Mail reports sources as crediting the soldier as a hero of the Nairobi siege after intervening with a handgun as his only weapon.
The soldier was reportedly having coffee at the Westgate mall when it was attacked by a group of 10 to 15 terrorists.

Tomer Hazan Hy"d

Abdullah Amar, father of the terrorist Nadal Amar, condemned the actions of his son and expressed regret that he had killed IDF soldier Tomer Hazan. “I am speaking from the depths of my heart,” he told Israeli reporters Sunday. “If the army would give me a machine gun, I would shoot my son in the head, without a court's permission.”
Hazan was abducted Friday and murdered in Samaria by Amar, with the motive said by IDF officials to be a plan by the terrorist to trade Hazan's body for the freedom of his brother, a Fatah terrorist who has been in jail in Israel for the last ten years. The soldier went missing Friday, and after a Shabak investigation, soldiers descended on the home of Nadal in the village of Bayt Amin, near Kakilya.
Hazan had worked together with Amar at a restaurant in Bat Yam. On Friday, Hazan met Nadal in the Jewish town of Shaare Tikvah in central Samaria, from where both proceeded to Nadal's village, where Israeli officials said that the IDF soldier was killed immediately. Nadal dumped Hazan's body in a pit near the village. He along with six others were arrested Saturday morning, after the Shabak gathered information on the attack.
Nadal Amar had been working in Israel since he was 17, his father said, and the family was extremely upset and distressed at what he had done. “I and all the members of my family, from young to old, strongly condemn what my son did, killing an unarmed man who came here,” said Abdullah Amar. “Nadal never even hurt a cat, I never imagined he could hurt a person. But I wish to tell the Israeli public that if he committed a crime, he must pay for it as a court orders. He killed a man for no reason,” the elder Amar said.
Nadal Amar has been on his own for decades, his father said, coming to visit his family for short periods only once every few months. “He has never been in jail, was never associated with Hamas or Fatah or the Jihad groups.” Nadal Amar has a wife and eight children in the Israeli Arab town of Jaljuliya, the elder Amar said.

"When evil is perpetrated against a human being - by taking his life - then vengeance becomes not only the erasing of evil but one way of honoring the dead by showing that his life was indeed precious to us, that we are indeed shaken by his death, that his life and blood were not cheap in our eyes. One does not forget or forgive murder. To do so is to spit in the grave of the murdered, no matter what the rationalizations. And to do so is to hold in contempt the lives of others who will be murdered tomorrow for our refusal to burn out the murderers today." - R' Meir Kahane 1983

A former member of the Givati Brigade’s Rotem Battalion, in which Staff Sergeant Gabriel Kobi – shot in the course of routine security duty in Hebron on Sunday – served, offers a personal tribute to the young man he never knew.
By Ido Antar
“Yesterday evening, the name of the soldier killed in Hebron was released to the public – Staff Sergeant Gabriel Kobi, who served in the Rotem Battalion of the Givati Brigade.
I didn’t know him.
Two years have passed since I was released, and he only then enlisted.
I won’t be at the funeral, and I probably also won’t attend the shiva. I will not be reciting the mourner’s Kaddish.
Today, I will go for a run like every other day, and I will go to the gym like every other day. But instead of wearing a Nike or Adidas shirt like on a normal day, I pulled out from the depths of my closet the shirt of the Rotem battalion.
Every person that I pass by on my run – I will point behind me with my thumb so that they will all know. So that they’ll know that the IDF as a whole, and the Rotem Battalion in particular, are strong, tough, and remember every single fighter. That’s my small tribute for all to see.
But not so that they’ll be proud of me – but rather proud of him.
If this post happens to reach Staff Sergeant Gabriel Kobi’s family, know that your dear one was a courageous hero, there is no other like him, he will always be remembered in a heroic light earned by so few. With all the pain and sorrow, he was killed for a hallowed goal, in defense of the homeland.
To the lowly terrorist who did this – I trust and am certain that your whereabouts are known, and indeed very likely that you’ve already been caught. I hope very much that you get what you deserve.

Remember when candidate Barack Obama promised his acolytes that they were only “five days away fromfundamentally transforming the United States of America”? That was back in October 2008, when the hectic flush of Obamamania was at its peak.  To be fair, it’s taken a bit longer than five days, but here we are, five years into the most destructive presidency in the country’s history, and we can see that fundamental transformation at work just about everywhere.
The economy: During Obama’s first term, the credit rating of the United States was downgraded by S&P for the first time in history. That might seem pretty abstract: who cares about a country’s credit rating?  But then there’s news like this: According to a report released in 2012 by the Federal Reserve, Americans have seen their wealth plummet by 40 percent over the past few years. Hope & Change!

Churchill, FDR, and Stalin at Yalta.

Originally published at the Gatestone Institute.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt [FDR], reversing the policy of four presidents and six of their Secretaries of State not to recognize the Soviet government, in 1933 extended “normal diplomatic relations” to the Soviet Union, the totalitarian slaughterhouse of Josef Stalin. As meticulously researched by Diana West in her new book, “American Betrayal: The Secret Assault on Our Nation’s Character,” the reasoning behind Roosevelt’s decision was never made clear; what was clear, however, since the 1917-1919 Bolshevik seizure of the Russian government by force, was the Soviet reign of blood and terror. According to Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, author of The Gulag Archipelago, by the late 1930s, Stalin’s regime was shooting tens of thousands of people per month. Yet, for reasons that remain murky, FDR was influenced, inspired, or somehow persuaded to normalize U.S. relations with Stalin, in exchange for a page of Soviet concessions, not worth the paper they were written on, which pledged that the USSR “would not attempt to subvert or overthrow the U.S. system.”
What West documents is the subsequent process of infiltration, influence, and “occupation” by an army of communist agents and fellow travelers; here, however, the focus is on what that original 1933 decision has meant for future generations, most especially our own, when confronted with decisions about whether or not to recognize enemies who make no secret of their enmity and intention to destroy us.

Fatah: Replace today's "whores"
with yesterday's Martyrs -
killers of Israelis
 from the past

On Facebook, Fatah wishes for return
of female terrorists and suicide bombers
who killed 46 and injured more than 200:

"Where are you, Dalal [Mughrabi]?
Swear in Allah's name that you will return...
bring Ayyat Al-Akhras, Andalib Takatka
and Wafa Idris with you"

"Teach these whores [who demonstrated yesterday]
that the homeland needs sacrifice and blood"
by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik
Fatah's Facebook page continues to promote killing of Israelis and praises terrorists, as documented by Palestinian Media Watch. The administrator of "Fatah - The Main Page" expressed longing for the return of terrorist Dalal Mughrabi, who participated in attack that killed 37, and for suicide bombers Ayyat Al-Akhras, Andalib Takatka and Wafa Idris, who in total killed 9 and wounded more than 200. This was expressed as part of an overall condemnation of Palestinian women who demonstrated against the renewal of the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. The demonstrators were referred to as "whores."

Female fighters of the past with their guns (left)
and today's "whores" (right)
The Fatah page administrator addressed the terrorist killers and asked them to "come back" to teach Palestinians to use violence against Israel and die willingly as Martyrs for Palestine:
"Come back here, my sisters, in Allah's name. Teach yesterday's whores [at the demonstration] how the struggle is carried out, how to sacrifice for Palestine. Teach them how the Palestinian woman acts like Al-Khansa... Come back, oh you modest [women], and teach these whores that the homeland needs sacrifice and blood and not a modeling show..."
The reference to Al-Khansa encourages Palestinian parents to happily sacrifice their children in battle. Al-Khansa is a famous Arab female poet from the early Islamic period (7th century). She is honored in Islamic tradition for sending her four sons into battle and rejoicing when they all died as Martyrs.

The Fatah Facebook page also compared the "modest" women of the past, the terrorist killers, to "the whores," the Palestinian women demonstrators of today:
"Shame on the whores who led the demonstration yesterday [Aug. 28, 2013], and this morning I find no way to describe them but as whores on the sidewalks of the Muqata'a' (i.e., the PA's Presidential Headquarters)."
PMW has documented that Fatah uses its Facebook page excessively to glorify violence and terrorists.

The following is the text on Fatah's Facebook page, posted the day after Palestinians demonstrated against renewed peace talks between Israel and the PA:

In photo: The female fighters of the past with their guns and today's "whores."

Text: "Where are you, Dalal [Mughrabi]? Swear in Allah's name that you will return, if only for a moment. On your way, bring Ayyat Al-Akhras, Andalib Takatka and Wafa Idris with you. Bring the Martyrs with you. Come back here, my sisters, in Allah's name. Teach yesterday's whores [at the demonstration] how the struggle is carried out, how to sacrifice for Palestine. Teach them how the Palestinian woman acts like Al-Khansa and not like some young whore standing in the streets in the ugliest way, [using] the dirtiest words. Come back, oh you modest [women], and teach these whores that the homeland needs sacrifice and blood and not a modeling show and vulgar words and obscenities that [even] men are ashamed to utter. Rest in peace, [you] Al-Khansas of Palestine, our female Martyrs, our female fighters and Dalal [Mughrabi]'s sisters. Shame on the whores who led the demonstration yesterday [Aug. 28, 2013], and this morning I find no way to describe them but as whores on the sidewalks of the Muqata'a' (i.e., the PA's Presidential Headquarters)."
[Facebook, "Fatah - The Main Page," Aug. 29, 2013]

Dalal Mughrabi - led the most lethal terror attack in Israel's history in 1978, when she and other terrorists hijacked a bus and killed 37 civilians, 12 of them children.

Ayyat Al-Akhras - the youngest female Palestinian suicide bomber (age 17). She killed 2 Israelis and injured 28 in a suicide bombing near a Jerusalem supermarket on March 29, 2002.

Andalib Takatka - female suicide bomber who killed six and wounded more than 80 in her attack on Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda outdoor market on April 12, 2002.

Wafa Idris - was the first Palestinian female suicide bomber. She killed one and injured over 100 in her attack in central Jerusalem on January 27, 2002. As a volunteer for the Palestinian Red Crescent, she was able to bypass Israeli security and enter Jerusalem in a Palestinian ambulance.

Al-Khansa - famous Arab woman and poet from the earliest period of Islam (7th century), honored in Islamic tradition for sending her four sons to battle and for rejoicing when they all died as Martyrs. She has been lauded by the PA and is often presented as a role model for mothers.

CAIR failed to file required annual reports, known as form 990s, detailing their revenues and expenses, for three consecutive years. CAIR had been a non-profit on its own, but in 2007, the IRS approved a separate tax-exempt CAIR Foundation. The foundation never filed any subsequent reports. Both the foundation and CAIR nationalare on the purge list.
The CAIR Foundation won exempt status in 2007 and then never filed any annual reports. That year, theWashington Times reported that CAIR's membership plummeted by 90 percent, from a high of 29,000 people in 2000 to less than 1,700 in 2006. CAIR vehemently denied the report when it was issued. But a year later, when the organization sought to have its name removed from a list of unindicted co-conspirators in a Hamas-financing prosecution, CAIR attorneys tied the diminishing support to the 2007 co-conspirator list.
[...]
Anecdotal information indicates the group increasingly has turned to foreign donors for operating revenue. In 2006, State Department records obtained by the Investigative Project on Terrorism show, CAIR sent delegations to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates seeking millions of dollars in support.
The delegation included CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad, spokesman Ibrahim Hooper, then-board chairman Parvez Ahmed, and current chairman Larry Shaw.
In 2009, Awad solicited Libyan Dictator Muammar Gaddafi to help underwrite a program to distribute 1 million copies of the Quran to government officials and the general public in America and to help start up a new foundation Awad was trying to launch.
But CAIR got its 501c3 status back while patriot groups like the Tea Party were being targeted by the IRS.
Where are CAIR's tax returns? Who is giving them millions to fund their Islamic supremacist machine? Their mother organization, the Muslim  Brotherhood? Al Qaeda?
We want to see the jihad millions (billions, perhaps) and where their dirty dough is coming from. Before they stopped obeying US tax law and filing returns, we know that one Saudi wahhabi prince gave Hamas-CAIR 50 million dollars back in 2007.
Today they released another ridiculous report concerning the pathetic islamophobia financial network here. How wrong did they get it? They have me as President of Jihad Watch, need I say more?
The bottom line is that America needs to know who is funding these terror supporters. It's a national security issue. Release the returns. What is it that Hamas-CAIR is hiding and doesn't want us to see?

I am sorry that anyone from the Assyrian community here in Australia is involved with criminal gangs. The police and the media are not at fault for calling them out on being Assyrian. Those captured in the raids today are the ones that identify themselves as being of Assyrian heritage, by the clothes they wear, the tattoos they get, the things they say. They have made their heritage fair gang by forming an ethnically based gang. I am proud the police have been able to take more criminals of the street today, regardless of their ethnicity. 99% of the Assyrian community here is hardworking, decent God-fearing Christians. My message to the other one percent is you are not "sick-$!#$" because you are in a gang. Get out and get a job. Learn a trade and live a honest life. Crime does not pay. The police have made it clear they will go to any length to find you.

The idea that solving the Israel/Palestinian question is the key to unlocking the problems of the region was what everyone who wanted to sound as if they knew what they were saying was most delighted to say: "What was that about Yemen? Well of course the real problem we need to solve is the Israel/Palestinian issue." Rarely in diplomatic history has so much been got so wrong by so many people for so long.
With the civil war in Syria grinding through its third year, Egypt descended into ethnic and inter-religious barbarism, and the American Secretary of State reduced to promising "unbelievably small" action by the world's only super-power, it is hard to find any chinks of light. But one, perhaps, exists. It is that we may finally have seen the explosion of one of the most embedded and central myths of our time: the idea that the Israel-Palestinian conflict is the "key" to sorting out the problems of the Middle East.
After seeing what has happened since the "Arab Spring" began, this might be an appropriate moment to ask whether or not every Western foreign minister deserves simply to be sacked and sent back to school. Rarely in diplomatic history has so much been got so wrong by so many people for so long.
For at least the twenty years since the Oslo Accords, the idea that the Israel-Palestinian conflict was the "key" to unlocking the problems of the Middle East was the leitmotif of any discussion about the Middle East and North Africa areas. So pervasive was it that people could refer to the "Middle East" problem as though everyone agreed that there was only one problem across that whole set of benighted lands.
While of course it would be nice if all disputes could be solved — Cyprus, Kashmir, Turkey, Morocco, Tibet -- what is worse is that the allegation came from every side of the political spectrum. Politicians of the left said it. Politicians of the right said it. The idea that solving the Israel/Palestinian question was the key to unlocking the problems of the region was what everyone who wanted to sound as if they knew what they were saying was most delighted to say: "What was that about Yemen? Well of course the real problem we need to solve is the Israel/Palestinian issue." "A bomb was planted in which Western city? Well what we really need to do is solve that border dispute issue of the Israelis."
Further, one of the oddest things about all this is that for some reason, when the alleged centrality of the issue should have been swept aside most completely, it became instead even more central.
After 9/11, when Western cities began to be places on the frontline of a global effort to express innumerable Islamist grievances and extort endless Islamist demands, the free world's leaders instead decided to play this long-defunct tune one more time.

Yisrael Katz

As Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz hosted an event in his sukkah for IDF generals, he gave an exclusive interview to Arutz Sheva, in which he lambasted the current negotiations with thePalestinian Authority (PA). He also spoke about recent terrorist incidents, and the threat posed by Iran.
Commenting on the negotiations between Israel and the PA, which are being led by Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, Katz said: "I don't know all of the details, but while it is perhaps possible to hold talks in secret, it is not legitimate to hold talks with a secret ideology."
The Minister added: "For the Likud, there is a path forward, our path is different from that of Tzipi Livni. Her way is not our way. The Likud has to fix the guiding principles for negotiations." He added that there was a need to stress to the US that there are red lines, and that Israel is not prepared to cross those red lines.
Katz also expressed his staunch opposition to a Palestinian state, saying: "The existential threat to our existence does not come from Iran, or Syria or other Arab states, but rather from the establishment of a Palestinianstate, which we can not allow to take place."

Israel should stop talking peace with the Palestinian Authority so long as its chairman continues to incite to terrorism, said Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon (Likud) on Sunday.
Speaking to Arutz Sheva, Danon said that Israel should demand that PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas condemn the murders of two soldiers over the past two days before any peace negotiations can resume.

Following their rejection by the Australian people on 7th September, the Australian Labor Party are now going through the pantomime of selecting a new leader.

Labor are trying to suggest things have changed, but it is clear the deep problems Labor had in government are now following them into Opposition.

Despite the pretence, the factions are still calling the shots:
“… senior members of the ALP national executive have blasted the leadership contest … as "factionalism as usual".

Over the past week, factional figures loyal to Mr Shorten and Mr Albanese have marshalled their armies of supporters -- MPs, unionists, apparatchiks and staff members -- to wage a battle for the Labor leadership.

Mr Albanese's campaign is being run by left sub-faction boss and former minister Mark Butler. Mr Shorten's campaign is being jointly co-ordinated by right faction bosses David Feeney and Sam Dastyari.

"It's all pretty depressing really, just factionalism as usual," said a National Executive member. "It's no surprise really given Bill is a faction boss from the right and Albo is a faction boss from the Left”… (and) their campaign machines are almost entirely staffed and organised by figures aligned to either the Left or Right."
Read more here from The Australian

It is clear that Labor has learned nothing. However much they try to claim that things are different, the truth is that the faceless men are still in charge.
Whoever becomes Labor leader, they will still be beholden to the unions, the factions, the faceless men and the bitter personal divisions that paralysed the previous Parliament.

And most importantly of all Labor will still support a hit on families through a carbon tax.

USCB News: How We Spent Our Summer

Dear David Daniel,
A Rohingya-American Rep at the USCB Protest in May 2013
Now that autumn has officially arrived, we wanted to share with you a handful of USCB’s summer advocacy efforts:

Protecting Human Rights

•    In August, President Obama issued an Executive Order to keep the gems ban. Rubies and jadeite help fuel the war in Kachin State and are mined using child labor and forced labor. THANK YOU – this is a great victory for USCB members and ethnic civil society groups who lobbied hard to keep the ban in place!

•    The US has pushed for an official human rights resolution against Burma at the upcoming UN General Assembly session, which opens this week in New York. But this is not enough – the UN has issued annual resolutions on Burma for the past two decades, and the Burmese government continues to abdicate its responsibility to protect minority populations, particularly the Rohingya and Kachin. The US must assume the responsibility to protect – the US must urge the UN to establish an investigation into human rights abuses committed against religious and ethnic minorities. Join us now in calling for an international investigation.

•    On September 19, USCB Executive Director Jennifer Quigley testified at the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific (Committee on Foreign Affairs) hearing: "An Unclear Roadmap: Burma's Fragile Political Reforms and Growing Ethnic Strife." Click here for the text of her testimony, which challenged the US Administration’s Burma policy. Click here for the video of the hearing.

“Reforming” Burma’s Military

•    We released a joint statement with 33 other organizations condemning the Burmese government for the continuing use and recruitment of over 5,000 child soldiers despite signing a UN joint action plan in June 2012. Since our statement in June 2013, the Burmese government has released 110 children, but it has also continued to recruit children, prevent demobilization, and block the UN from accessing military sites.

•    In spite of the military’s continuing violations of international law, the US Administration is establishing official military-to-military relations with Burma. The US should not provide any military assistance or trainings until the Burmese military has, among other preconditions, consented to civilian control of the military, agreed to amend the constitution to achieve national reconciliation, established legitimate justice and accountability mechanisms, and publicly acknowledged that human rights abuses have and continue to be committed by the Burmese military. By implementing military-to-military relations without preconditions, the US is giving the Burmese military a free pass to continue abusing human rights. We are thus working with lawmakers to institute checks on the US’ developing relationship with Burma’s military.

Advocating for Responsible Investment & Trade

•    In June, we testified at an Office of the US Trade Representative hearing to review reinstating trade benefits for Burma under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP). Offering these trade benefits would mean that Burma can import 5,000 types of products into the US duty-free. But promoting trade with Burma will exacerbate land, labor, and human rights abuses. We are thus urging the US Administration to require concrete, measurable progress on human rights in Burma before the reinstatement of trade benefits, and to withhold trade benefits eligibility for Burma’s most high-risk sectors such as extractive industries & plantation agriculture.

•    The first US companies have publicly reported on their investments under the US Reporting Requirements for Responsible Investment in Burma. The Reporting Requirements aim to provide transparancy about US companies' activities and safeguard human rights in Burma. But US companies haven’t complied with the Requirements – they have failed to report on their human rights policies & procedures, failed to accept due diligence for their investments, and failed to disclose vital information like the names of their Burmese business partners. We are urging the US Administration to avoid setting a precedent of allowing companies to avoid forthright disclosures. Additionally, this fall, USCB will release the first edition of our Report Card of Companies Investing in Burma to ensure that US companies properly report on human rights policies and procedures.

•    Read more about trade benefits, the Reporting Requirements, and our other financial advocacy efforts on our interactive Investment & Trade webpage! It explains US & international economic engagement with Burma and pinpoints sectors to watch as engagement develops. The page features lists of companies investing in Burma, profiles of cronies sanctioned on the US’ individual financial sanctions list (known as the SDN list),maps charting development & displacement, an infographic charting economic engagement againstcontinuing rights violations and more!

US Campaign for Burma’s advocacy is made possible through your support. We work hard to pressure the US government to prioritize human rights concerns in all aspects of US-Burma policy, at a time when it has abandoned its ethnic and pro-democracy partners and former policy of prioritizing human rights in its rush to engage financially with the Burmese government. Make a donation here to support human rights and freedom in Burma.

As always, please feel free to contact us with all of your suggestions, questions, and comments. Don't forget to check out our FacebookTwitter, and Blog for daily news and updates.

In solidarity,

USCB team

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Romans 5:3-4NIV
===
Morning and Evening by Charles Spurgeon

Morning

"Accepted in the beloved."
Ephesians 1:6
What a state of privilege! It includes our justification before God, but the term "acceptance" in the Greek means more than that. It signifies that we are the objects of divine complacence, nay, even of divine delight. How marvellous that we, worms, mortals, sinners, should be the objects of divine love! But it is only "in the beloved." Some Christians seem to be accepted in their own experience, at least, that is their apprehension. When their spirit is lively, and their hopes bright, they think God accepts them, for they feel so high, so heavenly-minded, so drawn above the earth! But when their souls cleave to the dust, they are the victims of the fear that they are no longer accepted. If they could but see that all their high joys do not exalt them, and all their low despondencies do not really depress them in their Father's sight, but that they stand accepted in One who never alters, in One who is always the beloved of God, always perfect, always without spot or wrinkle, or any such thing, how much happier they would be, and how much more they would honour the Saviour! Rejoice then, believer, in this: thou art accepted "in the beloved." Thou lookest within, and thou sayest, "There is nothing acceptable here!" But look at Christ, and see if there is not everything acceptable there. Thy sins trouble thee; but God has cast thy sins behind his back, and thou art accepted in the Righteous One. Thou hast to fight with corruption, and to wrestle with temptation, but thou art already accepted in him who has overcome the powers of evil. The devil tempts thee; be of good cheer, he cannot destroy thee, for thou art accepted in him who has broken Satan's head. Know by full assurance thy glorious standing. Even glorified souls are not more accepted than thou art. They are only accepted in heaven "in the beloved," and thou art even now accepted in Christ after the same manner.

Evening

"Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe."
Mark 9:23
A certain man had a demoniac son, who was afflicted with a dumb spirit. The father, having seen the futility of the endeavours of the disciples to heal his child, had little or no faith in Christ, and therefore, when he was bidden to bring his son to him, he said to Jesus, "If thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us." Now there was an "if" in the question, but the poor trembling father had put the "if" in the wrong place: Jesus Christ, therefore, without commanding him to retract the "if," kindly puts it in its legitimate position. "Nay, verily," he seemed to say, "there should be no if' about my power, nor concerning my willingness, the if' lies somewhere else." "If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth." The man's trust was strengthened, he offered a humble prayer for an increase of faith, and instantly Jesus spoke the word, and the devil was cast out, with an injunction never to return. There is a lesson here which we need to learn. We, like this man, often see that there is an "if" somewhere, but we are perpetually blundering by putting it in the wrong place. "If" Jesus can help me--"if" he can give me grace to overcome temptation--"if" he can give me pardon--"if" he can make me successful? Nay, "if" you can believe, he both can and will. You have misplaced your "if." If you can confidently trust, even as all things are possible to Christ, so shall all things be possible to you. Faith standeth in God's power, and is robed in God's majesty; it weareth the royal apparel, and rideth on the King's horse, for it is the grace which the King delighteth to honour. Girding itself with the glorious might of the all-working Spirit, it becomes, in the omnipotence of God, mighty to do, to dare, and to suffer. All things, without limit, are possible to him that believeth. My soul, canst thou believe thy Lord tonight?

Today's Old Testament reading: Song of Solomon 1-3

1 Solomon’s Song of Songs.
She
2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—
for your love is more delightful than wine.
3 Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;
your name is like perfume poured out.
No wonder the young women love you!
4 Take me away with you—let us hurry!
Let the king bring me into his chambers.
Friends
We rejoice and delight in you;
we will praise your love more than wine....

Today's New Testament reading: Galatians 2

Paul Accepted by the Apostles
1 Then after fourteen years, I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas. I took Titus along also. 2 I went in response to a revelation and, meeting privately with those esteemed as leaders, I presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. I wanted to be sure I was not running and had not been running my race in vain. 3 Yet not even Titus, who was with me, was compelled to be circumcised, even though he was a Greek. 4 This matter arose because some false believers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves. 5 We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you....

I Can't Please Everyone
Glynnis Whitwer
"Obviously, I'm not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ's servant.Galatians 1:10 (NLT)
I started texting four years ago when we hired Kortney, a 21-year-old, to help with our business. On the way to work one day, she texted me and asked if I wanted a coffee. I received her text, but labored to respond. Before I could finish typing my answer, she texted me a second and then a third time.
Finally I just gave up and called her. "Kortney," I said. "If you would stop texting me I could respond!" We laughed about it for weeks. Actually, I think she was laughing atme, but I enjoyed it too.
In our current culture, people expect us to respond to their requests with increasing speed and efficiency. Whether it's a call, text, email, instant message, or Facebook comment, there's an understanding ... no, an expectation ... that we will respond.
I'll admit I fall into this as well. It appeals to my need to be needed. Someone wants my opinion or my help. At the very least, they want to connect with me. If they are willing to share their lives with me, my desire is to respond. Promptly. With creativity. And a bit of humor, if you please. But honestly, it's exhausting.
Dealing with the expectations of others is especially hard for us as women. It's impossible to meet everyone's needs. There are no firm lines between our private and public lives, and it's turning some of us into people-pleasing maniacs. Sadly, this is self-sabotaging behavior.
Jesus identified a similar people-pleasing tendency in His disciples. They were torn between obligations to others and obedience to Him. They wanted to follow Jesus, but on their terms. Jesus challenged this line of thinking, and called them to a new level of obedience, one that forced them to choose what was most important. Here are some examples:
• "Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.'" (Matthew 16:24-25, NIV)
• "Still another said, 'I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.' Jesus replied, 'No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.'" (Luke 9:61-62, NIV)
When the demands of others threatened their immediate obedience, Jesus called them back to Himself. He challenged them with the same unspoken question He asks us: Who are you going to please first?
Without settling our hearts on the answer to this question, we end up with an over-whelmed and over-committed life. Our lives operate like a bumper car, crazily racing in one direction, only to crash into an obstacle and wildly turn another direction.
My life has felt that way at times. But my heart gained clarity and direction when I declared Jesus Christ to be my leader. Now, please know that even though I believed those words in my heart and spoke them with my mouth, it took years to bring every area of my life into alignment. It is still a process, and at times I have to check my reality against my intent.
Declaring Jesus as our leader breaks our bondage to the approval of others, and helps clarify our motives. Plus, it reduces stress as we accept the fact that we can't please everyone, and God never expects us to try.
Dear Lord, You alone are worthy of following. Please forgive the times I've chosen to follow others before You. I long to be a woman with an undivided heart. Help me overcome bondage to the approval of others. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Be StillGwen Smith

Today's Truth

"Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10a).
Friend to FriendThere was a crisp chill slipping through the window as I headed to the couch to get with God before rushing into my day. I filled up my coffee mug, lit a cinnamon bun scented jar candle and nestled into my corner spot. Before I could get comfortable, however, I realized that the combination of the morning breeze and the ceiling fan were a bit much for my shorts-clad legs. I jumped up from the couch and turned the ceiling fan off ... for possibly the first time in five or six months.
As I got back into my comfy prayer corner, I looked up at the fan, now still, and drew a deep breath of surprise. Dirt! All over the blades of my ceiling fan! And when I say that I saw dirt, let me tell you, it wasn't just a smidgeon ... it was agood amount of dirt. Yuck. When did that happen? How did it get there? Note to self: clean fan today.
I brought my Bible and prayer journal to my lap, ready to talk to God and seek His direction for the day, but before I could even lift my pen and open the Word, I heard a soul whisper, "Be still."
"I'm here, Lord! Ready to talk. Ready to pray," my heart responded.
Again...the whisper, "Be still."
"Like the fan, LORD?" I wondered?
Then it hit me: when I slow my soul to still and listen quietly, God gently shows me the dirt on the blades of my heart. You see, I'm an action girl. I love to move and chat and go, go, go. Dust doesn't settle on my days - but - as God reminded me, dirt sure can settle on my heart.
I nod knowingly. "It's Your kindness that leads me to repentance, oh Lord." (Romans 2:4)
When I slow to still and know that He is God, I am face to face with His holiness. In light of His holiness, my wretchedness is revealed. His love and kindness brings revelation that causes my heart to ache for restoration. So I confess. I confess my mess. My heart dirt. And His mercy runs. Before the confessions leave my tongue, the blades of my heart are sparkling. Wiped clean with the righteousness of Grace. Beautiful, far-reaching grace.
"For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him" (2 Chronicles 16:9, ESV).
This grace is for every one of us - and it begins and ends with Jesus Christ. It's for me. It's for you. Whether you are at work, at home, at the hospital or in a jail cell. He's whispering, "Be still." Whether you are struggling with life strains or are in a season of reprieve. "Be still." Whether you have a house full of crazy noise or an apartment filled with ordered quiet. "Be still." Whether the diagnosis is cancer, the sting of betrayal is fresh, the Hope you cling to resounds, or you are weary and unsettled. "Be still." Know that He is God. Know that He is good. He is in control. He loves you. He is able. He is holy. He is worthy. Oh, so worthy.
Then, in the stillness ... respond.
O Lord, you have examined my heart
and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I'm far away.
You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home.
You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, Lord.
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand!
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
Let's Pray
Dear Lord, I'm here. I'm still. Please reveal my heart dirt. (Pause to listen and reflect.) I confess these sins to You ________________ and I ask that you remove them as far as the east is from the west. Thanks for capturing me with Your grace once again. Help me to know and love You more today.
In Jesus' Name I pray,
Amen.
Now it's Your Turn
  • Read Psalm 139 in its entirety. Pray responsively or journal about the inescapable presence of God.
  • Be still before Him.

Thomas Cranmer: Theologian and Martyr

art_15_03_cranmer
Quote: Final words of Thomas Cranmer: "And for as much as my hand offended, writing contrary to my heart, my hand shall first be punished therefore; for, may I come to the fire, it shall be first burned."
Considered the premier leader of the English Reformation, Thomas Cranmer (1489 – 1556) ranks alongside Luther in Germany, Calvin in Switzerland, and Knox in Scotland as a national religious figure of the sixteenth century.
Cranmer was born in Nottingham to a landed family, but his future lay outside the ranks of the country gentry. During his time at Cambridge as a university priest, he was introduced to the writings of Martin Luther. Unlike William Tyndale, who, in the 1520s was taking a lead in English Reformation, Cranmer's "conversion" was slow in coming. During this decade, Cranmer was ordained to the priesthood and completed his doctorate of divinity at Cambridge. In 1532, King Henry VII appointed him Archbishop of Canterbury.
Though the king rattled through six wives, Cranmer remained loyal and alive, fearing to speak out against Henry's wickedness. But on other matters Cranmer was his own man. When Henry brought his Six Articles (upholding transubstantiation, clerical celibacy, and other Catholic dogma) before the Parliament, Cranmer initially argued against them. Indeed, he had a very personal stake in the matter of clerical celibacy. The previous year he had married Margaret, the niece of Andreas Osiander, a prominent Lutheran Reformer. She remained in Germany, and the marriage was kept secret — so secret that those who knew he was married joked that he traveled with her in his suitcase. But when Parliament voted to approve Henry's Six Articles, Cranmer backed down. Despite enemies in the court, however, Cranmer managed to remain in the good graces of the king, and he stood at Henry's bedside during his final moments.
With Henry's son Edward VI on the throne, Cranmer enjoyed greater freedom to follow his instincts and develop a more Protestant-oriented liturgy and theology, particularly through the Book of Common Prayer. The first version presented a mild Protestant stance. But three years later, in 1552, the volume demonstrated an even greater separation from Rome. The Forty-two Articles, which would become known as the Thirty-nine Articles, also held an unapologetic Protestant slant. Yet his theology offered a balanced perspective on such issues as predestination, accepting the Augustinian view of God's providence in salvation while adding a warning that it not be used to sanction sin or to despair of being elect.
The future looked bright for Cranmer until Edward's older sister Mary ascended the throne, quickly changing Cranmer's standing in court. A devout Catholic, Mary was determined to reverse the English Reformation and restore the Catholic Church.
When Mary brought back the Old Latin Mass and set aside the Book of Common Prayer , Cranmer strongly protested. He was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death. But executing him was too easy. Mary and the Catholic clerics sought a public recantation. Indeed, so important was his reconversion to Catholicism that clerics visited him regularly to wear him down. The tactics worked, and Cranmer recanted his Protestant faith five times. He signed a six-point document denouncing the tenets of the Reformation. And even though he gave his allegiance to the "Pope and vicar of Christ, to whom all the faithful are bound subject," it was not enough to save him. It was enough, however, to thoroughly humiliate him, which was exactly what his opponents desired. He was sentenced to be burned at the stake.
On March 21, 1556, Cranmer was led out to make a final public confession of his Catholic faith. But perhaps realizing the execution would not be stopped no matter what he said, he confessed his sins — particularly the grave sin of recanting the gospel message that he truly believed. He admitted that the recantations were signed "for fear of death."
With those words, Cranmer became a martyr to the Protestant faith. He was taken to the stake and the fire was lit. Reaching into the flames with his right hand, he confessed, "As my hand offended, writing contrary to my heart, my hand shall first be punished." It was a slow, agonizing death as it had been for others — both Protestant and Catholic — who were sacrificed to the flames of religious intolerance.
