Jeffrey William "Jeff" Shaw, QC (10 October 1949 – 11 May 2010)[1] was an Australian lawyer, judge and former Attorney General of New South Wales.
Pay It Forward is a 2000 American drama film based on the novel of the same name by Catherine Ryan Hyde. It was directed byMimi Leder and written by Leslie Dixon. It stars Haley Joel Osment as a boy who launches a good-will movement, Helen Hunt as his single mother, and Kevin Spacey as his social-studies teacher.
Good movie with a lovely idea of altruism changing the world. Then apply some ALP style brilliance. The problem Shaw needed to navigate was that if he defended an ALP position from attack in a legal setting, where the law wasn't on his side, he wasn't able to legally defend it. This wasn't a problem for a person like Shaw, who could think outside of the box. Shaw worked out that a person without an interest could pretty much do as they pleased. So, people were tasked to work outside their portfolio in an aggressive way which supported a third party. If a whistleblower discovered a pedophile within the ALP then that whistleblower could be targeted by people unrelated to the person complained about .. with impunity because they didn't directly profit.
Shaw lived and died as a drunk but he wasn't a dumb drunk. And he corrupted a good movie concept.
