US Campaign for Burma Free the monk

Please Give $66 for Aung San Suu Kyi's 66th Birthday

Help Us Free All of Burma's Political Prisoners

We are grateful that this year for Aung San Suu Kyi's birthday she will be free. The relentless efforts of U.S. Campaign for Burma's grassroots deserve strong praise for this accomplishment. For her 66th birthday this year we are celebrating her freedom, as well as following her request to continue to push for the release of all political prisoners in Burma.

Please donate $66 in honor of Aung San Suu Kyi's 66th birthday on June 19th. Your donation is essential to help us fight for freedom for all Burma.

Aung San Suu Kyi has said, "the release of all political prisoners is the most important thing for all those who wish to bring about change in Burma." We need to remember all the courageous people who are fighting for democratic change.

We need your help to secure the release of all political prisoners such as U Gambira.

U Gambira is widely known throughout Burma as the “Hero Monk”, the main organizer behind the Saffron Revolution. Though he was only 28 years old at the time, U Gambira and 5 other monks founded the All Burma Monks Alliance in August 2007, after the arrest of scores of 88 Generation leaders. Even though he knew organizing a peaceful protest could lead to his arrest, torture and even death, he passionately and relentlessly organized daily massive demonstrations of tens of thousands of monks across Burma to demand the military junta respect the rights of the people.

"I have watched a new generation of activists join to issue an unequivocal call for freedom. And I have watched as many in the police and military, sickened at what they were forced to do to their countrymen, give so many of us quiet help.”

- U Gambira, speaking from his hiding place in Oct. 2007

He was arrested on 4 November 2007 and sentenced to 68 years in prison. U Gambira is currently detained in Khamti prison, which is very far from his family. They must travel four days in order to visit him. When U Gambira was first transferred there, in January 2009, he walked through the airport with the prison guards and shouted “Down with the military regime!!”

Please help us fulfill Aung San Suu Kyi's demand for the release of all political prisoners. Donate $66 today in honor of her 66th birthday.

Sincerely,

-Thelma, U.S. Campaign for Burma
