Over the past three weeks, the Burmese army has attacked the Shan State Army – North, ending a 22 year old ceasefire agreement in its attempts to end all resistance to its rule. Already reports have emerged of more than 3,000 people displaced by the attacks, and women gang-raped and used as cannon fodder. The situation appears to be worsening, as reports indicate the regime is preparing to attack the largest ceasefire group, the United Wa State Army, adjacent to the Shan State Army-North in Northern Shan State, not far from China’s border. The situation is urgent. We urge you to email your Senators to please raise their voices and co-sponsor S. Con. Res. 12,calling on the President to provide leadership for the establishment of the Commission of Inquiry to help bring justice and accountability to the 55 million people of Burma.
