North Korea publicly executed a Christian woman last month for distributing the Bible, which is banned in the communist nation, South Korean activists said Friday. Ri Hyon Ok, 33, was also accused of spying for South Korea and the United States and organizing dissidents. She was executed in the northwestern city of Ryongchon near the border with China on June 16, according to a report from an alliance of several dozen anti-North Korea groups.

SENATOR Penny Wong and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd both claim there is a desperate need to pass a Bill establishing an emissions trading system for Australia before the United Nations climate summit in Copenhagen at the end of the year. They are wilfully misleading the electorate.

The Europeans are the real force behind the Carbon Credit Trading System(CCTS). Why? Most of their incomes are no longer derived from manufacturing or the extraction of minerals. Europe sees this Carbon Credit Trading System as their only way to remain competitive this century. Look at nations like China and America for that matter - What the hell do they need Europe for? Europe likes the CCTS because it handicaps its rivals - That simple. It gets better - The Europeans also want to bolt the CCTS onto what is left of their financial system. The trade in Carbon Credits is lucrative for many reasons the main one being the creation of a derivatives system above it. Carbon credits can be used as debt instruments and be traded as futures ....it goes on and on. The EEC wants a slice of the action.
In short: Rudd is selling us out. I wonder when the Chinese are going to pull the manchurian candidate aside and tell him whats what? The Chinese have accumulated a lot of power over the last 12 months. They hold some massive markers over the Europeans and Americans and they will use them if they think the CCTS is going to screw them.
Rudd should not be taking the Europeans to seriously anyway, most of their banks are set to default over the next 18 months as their exposure to the debt ridden countries of Southern and Eastern Europe shreds their balance sheets. Their Governments will have little choice but to step in and save them. China, North Asia, America and to a lesser extent India is where our future resides. Time we started playing ball with these guys and forget about the contrived Green house/ Global Warming / Climate change Ponzi Scheme.

Excellent points, Tim. I would like to add that Europe has a comparative advantage with the greenhouse gas legislation being dated from 1990, as Costello pointed out, being the time that communism fell in Europe and the old industrialized areas stopped pumping. The worst greenhouse gas offenders were .. and are, the communists.
I would also point out that despite Australia’s natural disadvantage from primary industry to Europe, Europe is suffering worse for the decisions it has made. When Hill had his way as environment Minister Australia was able to stay under the arbitrary figures. Going forward, Nuclear is the only way to maintain that advantage. Europe, in embracing wind, solar etc etc is failing to meet their arbitrary targets. I note that once Rudd was elected, Australia has had difficulties too.
The truth is that ALP do not have a plan, but a reaction to political wind. The great division in Australian politics is not in the Liberal party or in the ALP, but in the division between mainstream journalists and reality.

Turnbull wants changes to Rudd’s legislation on ETS. These changes to include better protection for big poluters and compensation for electricity generators. Is Malcolm trying to tell me that compensation comes out of Rudd’s pocket? or does he think we are all stupid?
Early Christmas present for Rudd from Malcolm.
My question is, will Turnbull defect to the labor party at the next election? If not I am looking in another direction.

Turnbull is being hammered for his stance on ETS. Personally, I think the ETS is a massive impost Australia doesn’t need. I feel, then, that Turnbull’s position is the best of all options available to the Liberal party, but not for Australia. I feel that the ETS debate is an opportunity for the ALP individuals to express their thoughts on the matter. Will they vote for something that is clearly not in Australia’s interests? I think the issue here is the ability of the ALP members who were voted in by the public to be able to serve their constituents. The issue raises the unasked question what is Rudd’s transition plan for Gillard or Swan? Clearly Rudd is not going to stick around and pay the bill. No state ALP leader in the last decade has waited for an election to be ejected by voters .. so what is Rudd’s plan? I want to know.
