Transport Minister, John Watkins, needs to explain his claims Labor’s new timetable is a ‘success’ given CityRail statistics revealing trains failed to meet PM peak on-time running targets for 40 of the 46 weeks it has been in operation.
Shadow Minister for Transport Barry O’Farrell said commuters wanted the Minister to devote his energies to genuine rail improvements, not distortions designed to further Labor’s political aims.
“Despite slashing 270 services a day, slowing services and redefining the measure of ‘late running trains’, John Watkins’ new rail timetable has failed to deliver for commuters using PM peak services,” Mr O’Farrell said.
ReplyDelete“For 40 out of 46 weeks the new timetable has been operating it has failed to meet Labor’s own PM peak target,” he said.
Mr O’Farrell said the on-time running distortions were matched by Mr Watkins’s claims about the increased level of patronage.
In a July 5th media release Transport Minister, John Watkins, claimed ‘more than 103,000 additional passengers a week have ridden the network since the September 2005 timetable changes’.
Official CityRail figures reveal the figure to be 78,400.
“Record petrol prices, and not the Iemma Government’s slower and reduced train services, have fuelled the increases,” Mr O’Farrell.
Our Government is stupid for claiming improved passenger levels through the new timetable even though it was obvious that the increasing fuel prices were driving people off the roads and onto Cityrail (aka Shittyrail)
