Oct 18th Psalm 25:14-15 background and meaning

“The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. My eyes are ever on the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare.” Psalm 25:14-15 NIV

The Psalm is an incomplete acrostic poem, missing some letters in reference to hell. There is dispute over when it was written. Spurgeon places it as authored by David during the Absalom rebellion. Others place it during the Persian period between 539 BC and 445 BC.

A rainbow is not the only sign of a covenant with the Lord. Any life will have times where feet meet snares. It is a blessing that they can be overcome. It is good to have the confidence of the Lord. And it is good that, although there are snares to our feet, He knows our heart, and his covenant seals our salvation.

Oct 17th Psalm 19:14 background and meaning

“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14 NIV

Psalm 19 is written by David and divided in three parts, describing the glory of God, the light of God's law, and a prayer that David be found acceptable to Him. Verse 14 is from the prayer.

The Law is pervasive as sunlight, and error in character is revealed by it. David knew his faults were exposed to God. David does not pretend the faults are not there. But he asks the Lord to accept him for his tribute.

A corruption issue regarding Luke Donnellan

Luke Donnellan is minister for roads and ports. I don't know him. I had campaigned for a local council in Dandenong, and worked in Casey. I saw election signs in Casey that were inappropriately placed adjacent to a highway. I was not certain regarding election rules in Victoria, as I'd come from NSW, but I was pretty confident that it was wrong to use government fences to hold election material as government is supposed to be impartial. Private homes can show posters, public areas cannot have approval given. It was after the election, and so I saw no harm in reporting the issue, as the poster should have taken it down straight away too.

Firstly I researched the issue, found the poster, and a previous poster that had been placed for a federal election. They were both ALP posters. I found the poster on FB and saw him bragging about having posted it. I contacted the electoral office and was directed to Casey. Casey referred me to VicRoads. VicRoads took down the poster, but declined to take further action.

It turns out, the poster was an ALP constituent for Luke. Imagine how it would be treated if the posters had been posted by a Liberal? An independent?

Note, Luke is one of the MP's embroiled in the Red Shirt affair

Red Shirt Affair in Victoria

Soon after the ALP won government in 2014, new Liberal Leader Matthew Guy raised the issue of Red Shirts being inappropriately employed in parliament. The actual issue had been raised by a former ALP Red Shirt . The ALP immediately stonewalled on the issue and and spent a million dollars defending the allegation by preventing investigation. However, every court that examined the issue found there was a case to be answered, and finally the upper house of Victoria investigated and found corruption. Dan Andrews, ALP Premier of Victoria paid back the misappropriated money, but not the money spent defending the corrupt activity. A police investigation is now being held into twenty one ALP members, including six government ministers, including the police commissioner. The police commissioner has not stood aside for the investigation. There is an election on November 24th, and the exchange of writs is scheduled for November 1st.
Both major political parties have volunteers. Sometimes, their workers get paid. But the electoral office has strict rules as to who is paid, and the work they do. Liberals have Blue Shirt volunteers who help out on voting day, and on campaigns. ALP have red shirted volunteers and campaigners. Prior to the 2014 election, ALP paid some Red Shirts through funding of the Electoral Office. But they weren’t working for the Electoral Office, but campaigners for the ALP. The amount diverted from the Electoral Office was $380k. Tellingly, the arrangement was only in marginal seats, and safe seats like Dandenong did not have the arrangement. Dan Andrews has argued that he was unaware the arrangement was corrupt. So why was it not done in safe seats too? The government has been aware for years of the nature of their corrupt arrangement, spending a million dollars to avoid addressing it, but they must have known from day one through legal advice that it had been wrong. They could have saved the state a million dollars and paid up straight away. Why are police investigating now? Is it like the FBI investigating Hillary so as to prevent further investigation later?

I've been asked about the Red Shirt Affair. "Why has Matthew Guy been so low key on the issue?" is an unfair question. Matthew is the reason the affair has seen light. Media chose not to report prior to investigation, and following the investigation, spread a similar, unfounded, smear made by the ALP. The ALP's position is, in my humble opinion, corrupt and unsupportable.

Philippians 1:9-10 Oct 1st love may abound

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,” Philippians 1:9-10 NIV
